Dalmatian makes a surprise visit to an all-female high school

The boys of Dalmatian recently made a surprise appearance at an all-female high school in Suncheon on June 20th.

The reason for their unexpected appearance was for one particular first year student at the high school, who left a post on Dalmatian’s official fan cafe expressing her desire to meet the boys in person. Dalmatian happened to come across the post and decided to grant her wish with a surprise event.

Once at the high school, the boys remarked, “We heard there was a fan who wanted to meet us, so we have come just for her. We’re very happy to be able to meet her like this. Please continue to support us.”

Dalmatian interacted with the students in the classroom for about an hour, taking photos, shaking hands, and more. In addition, the members personally handed out snacks and signed CDs they prepared as gifts.

A representative of their agency stated, “We are planning to continuously hold these sorts of surprise events, so we hope fans throughout the country look forward to it.

In related news, Dalmatian is currently actively promoting their latest title song “E.R” from their 2nd mini-album ‘State of Emergency‘.

Dalmatian to skip this week’s music programs to meet their fans

Dalmatian has been revealed to have canceled a performance on a public broadcast music program to instead meet with their fans in the suburbs.

Dalmatian recently added surprise additional schedules for their second mini-album fan signings on the 15th, 16th, and 17th in Ilsan, Incheon, Daejun, and Daegu after receiving an influx of requests from their first fan meet at the Mokdong Hot Tracks on May 27th.

The mini-album’s distributor, CJ E&M, explained, “We’ve been receiving so many calls about when the boys would be holding their next fan signing after their Mokdong fan signing.”

To cater to their fans’ requests, the boys ultimately decided to give up slots on music programs to instead spend time with their fans. Considering that the market is undergoing fierce competition with comebacks and debuts from all sides, it’s a decision that couldn’t have been easy to make.

Representatives of their agency stated, “It’s important that the boys communicate with their suburban fans so we decided to give up the music program appearances this week to hold fan signings instead.”

The boys’ comeback album, ‘State of Emergency‘, has already sold out its first batch of copies and has entered into its second production.

Dalmatian reveals how they made their beastly transformation

Well into their promotions for their State of Emergency‘ comeback, Dalmatian sat down with Ilgan Sports for a heartfelt interview on the changes they’ve undergone during their hiatus.

Check it out below!

-

Q. “A new member joined.”

Jisoo: “Rapper Simon joined. He was born in America, but his nationality is Japanese. His father is Korean, and his mother is Japanese.”

Q. “How has your image changed?”

Simon: “We prepared our album with an air of desperation thinking that this could be our last album ever. Out of our desperation, we found an image that fit us well. Since we’ve done the cute concept to death, we wanted to show something stronger this time.”

Q. “Looks like everyone got more muscular.”

Inati: “We all worked out to shed our young sheep image and transform into beasts. All of us gained about 11 pounds (5 kg) in muscle mass. Jisoo used to weigh 123 pounds (56 kg), but now he’s up to 141 pounds (64 kg) by just developing muscles alone. Daniel’s muscle to fat ratio is on par with that of an athlete’s.”

Q. “How have you changed musically?”

Youngwon: “We used to sing light and bright songs, but our recent album is full of darker, heavier songs.”

Q. “Can you introduce your title track?”

Daniel: “Our album’s title track is ‘E.R.‘ We compared the urgent feeling of watching one’s lover leave you to the state of an emergency room. I think it fits our team’s situation well. We also switched up the choreography with new things several times.”

Q. “Review your last album with an unbiased approach.”

Jisoo: “Ranking in at 11th on a music program was like poison to us. It made us feel more comfortable, but also more lax with our performances. The public proved to be cold, as we dropped in ranking the next week and concluded our promotions hastily.”

Q. “It’s the battle of the idols lately.”

Inati: “We’re not scared (laughter). There are a lot of popular teams, but I’m actually glad about that. I’d love to go up against others in a true competition battle because it’d be a greater meaning of success if we survived it.”

Withdrawal of idol group members expected to continue

Music industry insiders took a closer look at the recent trend of idol members’ taking leave of their respective groups.

On May 24th, Dal Shabet‘s Viki confirmed her withdrawal from her group, while Dalmatian‘s Day Day also left the group, and back in April, EXID‘s Yuzi, Dami, and Haeryung also announced their withdrawal from their group. TAKEN (now renamed A-PRINCE) also announced the withdrawal of their members Seungyeol, Gunwoo, and Yoojun, earlier this week.

An anonymous music industry insider predicted that this trend is most likely to continue. ”There are currently a few idol group members who are considering leaving their groups,” the rep revealed.

Reasons for withdrawal include the schooling, career changes, solo careers. But, internal conflict with their agencies is said to be the deciding factor for the withdrawal of idol group members.

On the issue of conflicts with agencies, another music industry insider stated, “Members blame their agency if their debut isn’t a success, and eventually decide to withdraw the group. Even if their debut is a success, members leave if they think their agency isn’t supporting them enough.”

Dalmatian’s Simon shows off his friendship with L’Arc-en-Ciel’s Hyde

Dalmatian‘s Simon revealed his international friendship with L’Arc-en-Ciel‘s Hyde.

On May 30, Simon posted to Twitter, “Taken with Hyde hyung during L’Arc-en-Ciel’s Korean concert! He’s as youthful as ever. He watched our music video, and said it was cool.”

He continued, “He asked me to buy a Korean snow dome for him if we were to ever promote in Japan. Hyde hyung is a snow dome maniac.”

Earlier this month, L’Arc-en-Ciel performed their fourth Korean concert at the indoor Jamshil Gymnasium.

Dalmatian talks about the growth they’ve undergone for their comeback

The five members of Dalmatian recently sat down for an interview with No Cut News to discuss their ‘State of Emergency‘ comeback.

With Dari‘s enlistment, Day Day‘s departure, and Simon‘s addition, the group has undergone some heavy changes in the past year that has dramatically changed their group dynamics. Gone is the cute image they had lingering under their hip hop flair, as they’ve returned with a completely masculine look that fits them like a glove.

They began, “Before, although we’re not that cute, we tried to act as cute as we could. This time, it feels like we’re wearing clothes that fit us perfectly. It’s like we’re able to show a more genuine side. While preparing the concept for a year and three months, we wanted to show how much we’ve changed. We all worked out for a year to look more masculine, even if it meant having to skip out on singing practice (laughter).”

One Way‘s Chance became the last factor in completing Dalmatian’s final image. The entire album is produced by him with participation from the Dalmatian members.

Inati said, “I’ve been friends with Chance since elementary school. He knows the type of music style that we want so we just trusted him through and through. He’s not the type to call often but he kept calling saying that the songs were all sounding great. Also, he usually only tells people that they did ‘okay’, but he complimented our recordings, which was a great source of strength.”

On the topic of their member changes, Simon expressed, “I’ve been with Dalmatian since the planning stages, and I always monitored their promotions thinking that things weren’t living up to their efforts and potential. When I finally joined the team, I felt that they were all psychologically exhausted. I knew that I couldn’t add to that so I tried to approach them positively and brightly.”

Youngwon stated, “For motivation, we wrote ‘Dalmatian Public Broadcast #1′ in the middle of our living room. We tried to change ourselves from the inside out, and Simon joining became a big part of that. No matter how long it took, we were determined to spend this time meaningfully and without regrets.”

Jisoo added, “Our team has gotten a lot stronger. The time in which we spent finding what was most precious to us was so long, so it was a time where we learned a lot. Since we practiced so much, we’ve gained a lot of confidence. The members just rely on each other that much more, and I think out of all of the times we’ve spent together, this was the most meaningful.”

Daniel concluded, “Before, I used to think that we could release an album if we rehearsed and prepared enough. Through this opportunity, however, I’ve realized just how much inner growth is needed for just this one album to be released. I want to be able to communicate with our fans as fast as possible now.”

On the May 20th broadcast of SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘, Dalmatian member, Simon will be performing along with Baek Ji Young to her new track, “Good Boy“.

According to reports, Baek Ji Young personally requested Simon’s presence. “Due to his busy schedule, B2ST‘s Junhyung can’t perform on the stage with me all the time. We had a problem, but after I saw Simon’s amazing rap skills, I asked someone who was acquainted with him to invite him“, the singer said.

According to Baek Ji Young’s agency, “There were a lot of proposals coming in due to the significant impact the rap part has on the song. Despite the intense competition, Simon was picked to sing the part. The two are currently practicing hard to show a perfect performance. You can anticipate them.”

Simon who has a Korean father and Japanese mother, is fluent in Korean, Japanese, and English. He is also talented in various areas like dancing and singing.

If another member was given the opportunity to be on the show, I would do my best to help and support that member.
