SISTAR and Busker Busker’s popularity continues to soar

SISTAR and Busker Busker were two groups that saw their popularity soar in the first half of 2012 and they are once again showing how popular they are.

New tracks by both groups reached number one on music charts and showed that their popularity from the beginning of the year, was not just a flash in the pan.

Busker Busker released a follow up to their first album on June 21st, with a track titled ‘If You Really Love Me‘, which reached number one. Other tracks on the album also took spots 2-5, resulting in a ‘line up all kill.’ Most of the songs from their first album were received with much love and once again we are seeing the chart topping power of Busker Busker.

For seven days Busker Busker held onto the number one spot until June 28th, when they handed the spot over to SISTAR. In the first half of the year, the ladies of SISTAR had their hit song ‘Alone‘, which took over the top position from Busker Busker and they did it once again with their track ‘LOVING U‘. ‘LOVING U’ is different from their femme fatale concept of ‘Alone’, but nevertheless, this new concept continues to show that they are unique and healthy beauties.

miss A’s Suzy and Busker Busker to have a joint performance on Mnet’s 20′s Choice Awards

miss A‘s Suzy and Busker Busker will be performing a joint performance based on a “first love” concept for Mnet‘s ’20′s Choice’.

The joint performance will take place on June 28th at the gorgeous outdoor pool of Banyan Tree Club & Spa in Seoul. With this performance, Suzy, Busker Busker, as well as people in their 20s will enjoy Mnet’s ’20′s Choice’s summer party under the romantic, night sky.

With her pure and innocent appearance, Suzy has become acknowledged by many, regardless of generation, as the “first love” icon. Busker Busker, on the other hand, is a band known for its sweet sounds that can evoke thoughts of one’s first love. Thus, as the two performers have both the experience and the reputation, they are both fit for participating in this “sweetheart” themed and musical-like performance.

Upon hearing this news, netizens have responded, “Even the ‘first love’ theme suits them really well. [My heart] is already fluttering [with anticipation] for Suzy’s and Busker Busker’s joint performance,” and, “Who planned the joint performance for Suzy and Busker Busker? Awesome.”

In other news, as votes roll in for Mnet’s ’20s Choice’, Suzy is currently occupying two positions in the top 5, the first being in the ‘Movie Star’ category for her work in ‘Introduction to Architecture’, and the second being in the ‘Music Trend’ category along with miss A. As for Busker Busker, they are currently 5th in the ‘Online Music’ category, ranking among the likes of IU, Se7en, T-ara, and Leessang.

The Mnet ’20′s Choice’ summer party will air on the 28th via various channels, including Mnet, KM, tvN, On Style, as well as Mnet Japan and Mnet USA.

Big Bang and T-ara named the Kings and Queens for first half of 2012 album sales

Gaon Chart has unveiled the top artists in physical and digital sales for the first half of 2012!

Perhaps to nobody’s surprise, Big Bang and T-ara were named the Kings and Queens of sales for the year so far, as they each came out on top in the categories of physical album sales and digital album sales respectively.

Big Bang took first with their fifth mini-album, ‘Alive‘, which recorded 267,319 units in sales through May, setting it at nearly 100,000 units in lead against SHINee, who took second place with 165,411 units with ‘Sherlock‘.

Girls’ Generation‘s sub-unit TaeTiSeo took third with ‘Twinkle‘, recording 139,388 units in sales.

As for the digital charts, T-ara’s “Lovey Dovey” took the lead, followed by Big Bang’s “Blue” and “Fantastic Baby” in second and third respectively.

Fourth was taken by the biggest rookie of the year, Busker Busker, and their greatest hit, “Cherry Blossom Ending“. The super rookies are a strong contender on the physical charts as well, as they’ve sold 104,180 units of their debut album to date.

Following after Busker Busker is rookie Ailee in fifth.

Busker Busker’s Brad reveals he and his wife are vegetarians on ‘Golden 12′

Busker Busker‘s drummer Brad revealed that he and his wife Danny are vegetarians on On Style‘s ‘Golden 12‘.

For the final episode of ‘Golden 12′ that aired on June 21st, Lee Hyori and the cast were joined by special guests John Park, Leessang, actress Gong Hyo Jin, and Busker Busker for the charity concert ‘bo:da‘.

While greeting the guests backstage, Lee Hyori asked Brad if it was true he was a vegetarian, to which he answered, “Yes… My wife is also a vegetarian.”

Fashion designer Yoni P then asked Danny if there was a particular reason as to why she turned vegetarian. She answered, “Brad and I love animals, so we don’t eat them.”

Lee Hyori commented, “That’s the same reason why I turned vegetarian,” and then asked Busker Busker member Kim Hyung Tae if he was also a vegetarian. However, he shook his head saying he wasn’t, which is why he doesn’t eat with Brad, causing the others to laugh.

Huh Gak praises Busker Busker’s new wrap up album

Singer Huh Gak praised Busker Busker‘s new wrap up album.

The singer, who was the winner of season 2 of Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K‘, is showing his public support for Busker Busker, who came in second place on ‘Superstar K‘ season 3.

On June 21st, Huh Gak wrote via his official Twitter page, “Busker Busker. Simply amazing… [They are such an awesome group].”

The ‘Busker Busker 1st Wrap Up Album‘ contains five tracks in all, including their title track “If You Really Love Me“. The title song was initially planned to be included in their debut album released this past March, but was removed because it did not fit the ‘spring’ concept of the album. The group then decided to release all the songs that were not included through a wrap up album.

Currently, all five of the songs on the album are achieving an ‘all-kill’ on various music portal sites with “If You Really Love Me” leading. Busker Busker made an outstanding debut with their successful first album, and now it seems that they will continue making a huge impact on the music scene.

Meanwhile, Busker Busker will perform songs from ‘Busker Busker 1st Wrap Up Album’ at their ‘Youth Bus‘ encore concerts taking place on the 22nd and 23rd.

Busker Busker holds surprise event for their fans

Busker Busker held a surprise guerrilla event for their fans on the social networking site me2day.

On the 20th, Busker Busker posted to their official me2day, “During this hungry lunch hour, we’re suddenly announcing the people we’re inviting to our concert. Drum roll~~ The winners are Jinju, Nalboduh, and Josephine. Congratulations to you all! The winners, please send us your name, phone number, and birthdate via chat.”

Busker Busker, who is holding an encore concert on the coming 22nd and 23rd at the Olympic Park in Seoul, decided to give out free tickets to three lucky fans who were unable to attend their first concert this past May.

After hearing the news, fans who didn’t win expressed their disappointment by commenting, “Wow, I’m jealous,” “I want money to buy the ticket,” “The three, including Jinju, I envy you all,” and “I didn’t win…”

Winner Jinju expressed, “At this moment, I’m the happiest person in the world.”

Lee Sang Soon felt awkward after watching Lee Hyori’s sexy performance?

Lee Hyori‘s boyfriend Lee Sang Soon shared that he felt a bit awkward after watching his girlfriend’s sexy performance.

The last episode of ‘Golden 12‘ that will air on the 21st will show behind the scenes footage of the concert BODA that Lee Hyori and her friends put together.

The concert kicked off with Lee Hyori and Lee Sang Soon’s sweet performance, which was then followed by exciting performances by stars such as Leessang, John Park, Busker Busker, Harim, Son Sung Je, and Yoon Young Bae. Actress Gong Hyo Jin also went on stage to recite a poem she wrote about ‘Animal Love‘.

The highlight of the concert was, of course, Lee Hyori’s sexy performances. The diva, who has been on a hiatus from her singing career, made the crowd go wild by performing “U Go Girl” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang“.

After seeing the different Lee Hyori on stage, Jang Bum Joon commented, “It’s the Hyori Noona we don’t know“. Lee Sang Soon, also seemed to be at awe, as he said, “This is the first time seeing this side of her. It feels so strange. I shouldn’t have seen it. I think it’s going to be awkward between us from now on,” evoking laughter from those around him.

Busker Busker‘s main vocalist Jang Bum Joon took a couple of friendly photos with actress Kim Gyuri.

Kim Gyuri tweeted on the 19th, “I’m bored so I guess I’ll post some photos? After I went to Lee Hyori‘s ‘Golden 12‘ concert, I met Busker Busker’s charming Jang Bum Joon,” along with the photos above.

Netizens commented that the Busker Busker member looks a little shy standing next to the actress.

Followers on Twitter responded, “Jang Bum Joon must like Kim Gyuri a lot,” “Jang Bum Joon and Kim Gyuri’s smiles melt my heart,” and “Jang Bum Joon is such a cutie.”

Jang Bum Joon and Soonshim fight over a seat next to Lee Hyori

Busker Busker‘s Jang Bum Joon and Lee Hyori‘s pet Soonshim squabbled over a seat on June 14th’s broadcast of On Style‘s ‘Golden 12‘.

Jang Bum Joon visited the members in the waiting room before they went on stage for the ‘love life’ concert, BODA.

When he entered, Jang Bum Joon headed straight for a seat next to Lee Hyori. Soonshim, however, raced to the seat first, preventing Jang Bum Joon from sitting down.

The Busker Busker member looked flustered as he said, “Why is [Soonshim] doing this.” Lee Hyori couldn’t help but laugh as Jang Bum Joon finally ended the squabble by letting Soonshim have the seat.

Lee Hyori sends a video message to Jang Bum Joon on ‘Golden 12′

Lee Hyori comforted Busker Busker‘s Jang Bum Joon with a video message.

June 7th’s broadcast of On Style‘s ‘Golden 12‘ followed Lee Hyori and designer Yony P on their vacation to Hawaii.

The two friends visited Haleakala, famous for its sunset, and thought about the messages they wanted to send to the rest of the ‘Golden 12′ members.

For Jang Bum Joon, Lee Hyori sent the message: “Bum Joon. I know you got attacked a lot for asking me if my chest was big.” She was referring to when the members visited Jeju Island together, and Jang Bum Joon asked frankly, “How is your chest so big?” after seeing Lee Hyori’s swimsuit photo shoot.

Yony laughed as she added, “Yeah. You unintentionally turned Bum Joon into a very vulgar boy.” Lee Hyori responded, “Bum Joon is the one who said it, I didn’t tell him to say it. Bum Joon. I really don’t care about that so don’t pay attention to it.”

Busker Busker’s 1st album breaks 13 million downloads

Indie band Busker Busker achieved a new milestone as online downloads for their first album surpassed the 13 million mark.

According to figures released on the 31st by Gaon Chart, Busker Busker’s first album has accrued a grand total of 13,055,149 downloads. The number is a compilation of all downloads for the eleven tracks included in their album.

The song with the highest number of downloads was “Cherry Blossom Ending” with 2,184,650 hits. Including this track, six songs broke 1 million for digital downloads.

A representative for the Gaon Chart praised the rookies, saying, “Breaking the 10 million mark for a full album is a tough feat even for top artists. Also, Busker Busker had several popular songs instead of one specific song. In album sales, Busker Busker has sold more than 70,000 albums to date, so it is also possible they will break 100,000 purchases for their album sales as well.”

Busker Busker chosen as the musicians netizens want to meet most at a music festival

Busker Busker has been chosen as the musicians netizens want to meet most at a music festival.

A dating site held a poll asking its members, who range in age from 20-30, “Who is the musician you most want to meet at a May fesitval?” Busker Busker claimed the top spot with 41% of the votes (365 out of 890). In second place with 36% (320) of the votes was performer Psy, while DJ DOC‘s Kim Jang Hoon followed in third.

In related news, participants voted Yeosu Expo as the festival they most want to attend, and chose the World DJ Festival as their second in line.

Busker Busker reveal tattooed bodies for Nylon shoot

Busker Busker showed fans that even tattooed boys can look innocent and cute in a photo shoot for Nylon‘s June issue.

The members took off their shirts and got tattoos of messages thanking their fans for all the love the group has received. Usually, tattoos make people look a bit unapproachable and edgy, but instead, the Busker Busker members looked cute and lovely.

The editor who directed the shoot shared, “Although they must have been tired from getting the tattoos done for a long time, I got a professional yet friendly vibe from the members who never lost their laughter, played guitar, and sang.”

Busker Busker’s Kim Hyung Tae gifts Shindong with a drawing

Super Junior‘s Shindong revealed a gift he received from Busker Busker‘s Kim Hyung Tae.

Shindong posted the above photo (left) on his me2day May 10th and wrote, “Busker Busker’s Hyung Tae drew me this… That gaze seems to be longing for something. It looks a bit like Hyung Tae I think T_T am I wrong?”

The drawing was simply an outline of a man with permed hair, and the Busker Busker member’s signature took up much of the space on the left.

Fans seemed to be split on whether or not it really resembled Shindong. “I’m guessing those letters that say ‘Kim Hyung Tae’ is his signature,” they wrote, along with “Kim Hyung Tae who drew Shindong, and Shindong who shared it are both so cute,” “It doesn’t look like Shindong though,” and ”It really looks like Shindong. His drawing skills are awesome.”

Busker Busker successfully completes their ‘Youth Bus’ concert in Seoul

Busker Busker has successfully concluded their first solo concert at Yeonsei University starting May 4th through the 6th!

The trio performed all of the songs from their debut album, including their other hit remakes like “Tokyo Boy“, “Seoul People“, and “Livin’ La Vida Loca“, all of which were fan favorites from their days as ‘Superstar K3‘ contestants. They performed a total of 20 tracks live to the cheers of their audience.

Leader Jang Bum Joon stated, “I’m not used to such a reaction, but it feels so great. We’ll all work hard so please continue to enjoy our music.”

Drummer Brad also revealed that he had married his girlfriend of six years. On the final day of their concert, Jang Bum Joon announced, “I have some amazing news to share today. Our Brad has gotten married today. They’re now legally married.”

Towards his wife in the audience, he jokingly stated, “Nuna, you’re an ajumma now. Brad is also an ajusshi.”

Concluding the concert, Busker Busker expressed, “Thank you so much for coming today; we’re truly happy. It’s now time for us to visit our fans in the suburbs.”

Busker Busker will be focusing on their suburban tour in the coming months.

Busker Busker’s Brad officially marries his girlfriend of 6 years

Busker Busker member Brad announced during a recent concert that he had officially married his long-time girlfriend.

On May 4th, Busker Busker held a concert at Yonsei University. After performing about 2~3 songs, member Jang Bum Joon remarked, “We have some surprising news we want to share with you.”

Fellow member Brad then stepped forward and announced, “I married my girlfriend today. I headed to the concert venue as soon as we got our marriage license.”

A representative of Busker Busker’s informed OSEN on May 4th, “We had heard that Brad headed over to the concert after getting married. None of the staff members were aware of this, and were also very surprised.”

“Because both Brad and his girlfriend are American citizens, they plan to have an official wedding later on,” the rep continued. “The staff knew they were planning to get married, so the shock only lasted a short while and they were quick to excitedly congratulate them.”

Ahead of his announcement, Brad had revealed on the May 3rd episode of tvN‘s ‘TAXI‘ that he was dating his girlfriend for six years now, and that he planned on marrying her. The two first met at a club where he asked her to dance.

Lee Hyori sees John Park as a man, and Busker Busker’s Jang Bum Joon as a nephew?

Singer Hyori compared John Park with Busker Busker‘s Jang Bum Joon.

During the recent airing of OnStyle’s ‘Golden 12‘, Hyori held a vegetarian party with John Park, Jang Bum Joon, Ahn Hae Kyung, supermodel Hae Bak, composer Lee Joo Hee, and more.

Upon Hyori’s request, John Park and Jang Bum Joon put on a spontaneous duet performance of Maroon 5‘s “Sunday Morning“. According to the staff members, John’s skilled piano playing and his emotional-filled vocals harmonized well with Jang Bum Joon’s soothing and unique voice.

The ladies, Hyori, Ahn Hae Kyung, and Hae Bak, expressed their overflowing affection for singer John Park, and an envious Jang Bum Joon drew laughs after attempting aegyo to win the nunas‘ attention.

“When I first met John, he told me he was a fan of mine,” Hyori said. “I wanted him to see me as a woman, but he approached me as he would a celebrity. I was hurt,” she continued, causing laughter on set.

“I see John Park as a man, and Jang Bum Joon as my nephew,” she added, evoking Jang Bum Joon’s jealousy.
