‘Superstar K4′ contestant reveals that his ex-girlfriend is a member of a girl group

A ‘Superstar K4‘ contestant has grabbed the attention of viewers after revealing his ex-girlfriend is now a member of a popular idol group.

On the September 7th broadcast of Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K4‘, the contestant from the regional auditions, introduced himself as Jung Ee Chul and confessed his ex-girlfriend is a member of a girl group.

“She’s currently active as a member of a girl group and is also appearing in dramas,” he said. “Her popularity soared just like a roller coaster… We promised each other to become the best with her as a popular actress and me as a singer.”

Unfortunately, Jung Ee Chul was unable to impress the judges with his cover of COOL‘s “Aloha“.

Judge Lee Seung Chul evaluated the contestant stating, “Your voice is a bit light,” ending with an elimination and judge Baek Ji Young also agreeing.

Reflecting on his disqualification, Jung Ee Chul expressed that he was able to receive the courage to try out from his ex-girlfriend. “I will also work hard on my singing and be the next superstar.”

Changes made to ranking system on Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown’

Music program ‘M! Countdown‘ will be making changes to its ranking system.

Jung Yoo Jin PD, who is in charge of setting the direction for ‘M Countdown’ on Mnet, announced on August 28th, “We are reorganizing how the rankings are made to better fit the changing music trend and also to have the public [agree] with the chart,” explaining why they decided to change the way rankings are made.

Ahead of the change in rankings, on August 22nd, the Korean Musicians Association, Korean Entertainment Production Association, KMP Holdings, and many others involved in the entertainment industry were invited to inform them how the new ranking system will work.

Han Dong Chul, the director of Mnet, revealed, “‘M Countdown’ strives for fairness, and to raise the equality level, we decided to change up our ranking system. We are holding this meeting to see what the opinions of the experts in the industry are before we make any changes to the rankings.”

During the meeting, those gathered agreed that there is a need for music program rankings that mirror the hot issues and most recent trends in the music scene. They also agreed that music programs should be a stepping stone for rookie singers to build up their skills, so that they can carry on the hallyu wave and grow as K-pop artists. Regarding international fans, they stated that the easiest way for them to get into K-pop is by looking at ranking charts, so there is a need for music programs with rankings.

Mnet staff members agreed to try and follow theses suggestions and other ideas coming from the meeting. The general consensus was that the rankings will raise the importance and percentage of music sales, downloads, and plays, and decrease the importance and percentage of fan votes. In exchange for decreasing the weight of fan votes, a research study of the reactions of those ranging from ages 15-39 will be held.

Director Han Dong Chul said, “We will work hard to make a fair chart that reflects the music trend as well as the hard work of producers and artists alike,” revealing his future plans.

Starting with the last week in August, ‘M Countdown’ will start using the new ranking system. Another change is that rather than narrowing down the winner from three finalists, only two finalists will go head to head.

Along with the change in the ranking system at ‘M Countdown’, F.T. Island’s Hongki has replaced Tony An as the new MC.

F.T. Island’s Hongki becomes new ‘M! Countdown’ MC

With news of Tony An leaving his MC position on Mnet‘s ‘M! Countdown‘ after one year, it has been revealed that F.T. Island‘s Hongki is taking over as the new host!

On August 27th, PD Jung Yoo Jin of ‘M! Countdown’ revealed, “In addition to the reorganization of the program, Lee Hongki has been appointed as the new MC  beginning on August 30th.”

Producers of the program explained, “Lee Hongki holds the qualities of being an outstanding host with his volubility and wit. In particular, he is fluent in Japanese and is very popular overseas, therefore we have selected him as the most suitable to host the global music chart show, ‘M! Countdown’.”

Korean digital charts announce changes to song ranking formulas

Several of the foremost music ranking charts in Korea have announced a change to their track ranking formulas.

The daily chart, previously measured every day at midnight and continuing for 24 hours, will now be refreshed at noon instead. Thus, artists will be at an advantage if they release their songs closer to noon from now on.

Sites such as Melon and Mnet will apply these changes starting on the 14th. “Starting on August 14th, 2012, the Melon Chart will begin updating at a new hour. The daily chart update will start on the 14th, while the weekly chart will change beginning on the 20th.” Melon said.

The weekly chart originally refreshed on Sunday night at 12:00 AM. After the changes, the weekly chart will refresh on Monday at 12:00 noon. This is expected to reduce the number of artists releasing tracks on Sunday.

The Melon top 100 chart will go through some changes, as well. Originally updated at 6:30 AM, it will now change to 2:00 PM. The weekly top 100 chart will go from being updated on Mondays at 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the same day.

The changes were designed to make it easier to maintain the chart and to help distributing companies, said Bang Ji Yeon, a project leader for LOEN Entertainment, a major distributor in the K-Pop field. “Since 12:00 noon falls within traditional operating hours and people are in the office, it is easier to deal with system problems and mistakes,” she said.

Also, it makes it significantly easier for entertainment companies to relay album info to the distributor. When the charts refreshed at midnight, the entertainment companies would have to deliver the information at least a day in advance. With the change in schedule, however, that time can be cut down to 3-4 hours.

Ulala Session to leave ‘Immortal Song 2′ temporarily to focus on their concert

After four months of performing on KBS‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘, it has been revealed that group Ulala Session will be leaving the music show for the time being.

On August 15th, Ulala Session participated in the opening ceremony of Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K4‘ at the Seoul Jamsil Stadium and mentioned news of their first solo concert as well as announcing their plans to withdraw from the ‘Immortal Song’ for a bit. ”During our concert period, we plan on taking a break from ‘Immortal Song 2′,” they said.

Ulala Session received much love and interest with their appearances on ‘Immortal Song 2′ with their upbeat yet heartfelt performances.

However, the group will be temporarily exiting the program in order to focus on their first solo concert beginning on the 25th in Seoul. They will be touring cities like Busan, Daegu, Daejun, Gwangju until October.

Meanwhile, Mnet’s audition program ‘Superstar K4′ will air its first episode on August 17th featuring MCs Lee Seung Chul, Psy, and Yoon Mi Rae (Tasha).

‘Superstar K3′ contestant Shin Ji Soo to sign with Loen Entertainment

‘Superstar K3‘ contestant Shin Ji Soo will be signing a contract under Loen Entertainment, home to artists like IU, Sunny Hill, Zia, and more.

According to a source in the music industry, Shin Ji Soo is currently in disccusion to sign a contract with Loen Entertainment.

The agency also confirmed the news as a representative recently spoke with Star News through a phone call, stating, “Athough an official contract has not been signed, we are in discussion with Shin Ji Soo and her contract is being positively reviewed. The contract should be signed soon.”

Shin Ji Soo was a contestant on Mnet‘s popular audition program ‘Superstar K’ season 3 and made it into the Top 7. She is also known to be singer Huh Gak‘s friend from church.

Brown Eyed Girls’ Narsha leaves a message of encouragement for Miryo

Brown Eyed Girls‘ Narsha recently gave a few words of encouragement to fellow member Miryo, who got eliminated on the latest episode of Mnet‘s ‘Show Me the Money‘.

On July 28th, the singer took to Twitter and wrote, “Don’t judge a mistake as ability. You’re just taking a break since you still have a long way to go, so you should catch your breath and set off once again. I’m forever your fan. You’ve worked hard, Miryo!”

Miryo unfortunately got eliminated during the third round on the hip hop survival program ‘Show Me the Money’. The rapper and contestant failed to impress the audience with her arrangement of Kim Wan Sun‘s “The Dance in Rhythm“, ending with an elimination.

Upon seeing the broadcast, fans and netizens also left supportive messages for the rapper commenting, “Miryo, don’t be discouraged“, “It was still a great performance“, “Cheer up“, and more.

Ryeowook thinks Eunhyuk’s looks rank low in Super Junior?

Super Junior‘s Ryeowook stated on the July 23rd broadcast of Mnet‘s ‘Beatle’s Code 2‘, that he thinks Eunhyuk ranks low in appearances within Super Junior. The group recently placed first on Mnet, only within a week of their comeback with ‘Sexy, Free, and Single‘.

In the episode, as soon as the members sat down, they had already started bantering playfully when they started talking about popularity and rankings within the group. When asked about appearances, Ryeowook stated, “I think Eunhyuk hyung and I rank relatively low in the group‘, which surprised Eunhyuk.

In response, Eunhyuk said, “I’m not exceptionally good-looking, but I honestly don’t think I place low in looks. Ryeowook does!” making everyone on the set laugh. Ryeowook, unable to let the statement go, shot back jokingly, “Even now, I still get surprised by Eunhyuk when he doesn’t have make-up on.” Unfazed, Eunhyuk went on to bring up Ryeowook’s past photos and how shocking they are, continuing the cute Tom-and-Jerry-like banter.

Known for being extremely close and tight-knit as a group, Super Junior revealed that even they have fights occasionally, stating, “We fight more because we are so close.” They also revealed that the member who gets in arguments the most is none other than group maknae, Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun, they said, likes to joke around with the other members and make fun of them. The group also revealed that leader Leeteuk has only ever fought with Eunhyuk.

Brown Eyed Girls’ Miryo confesses she struggled after releasing her 1st solo album

Brown Eyed Girls‘ resident rapper Miryo, a former member of hip-hop group ‘Honey Family‘, recently sat down with reporters for an interview related to Mnet‘s hip-hop program ‘Show Me the Money‘

The interview took place at the Time Square M-PUB in Seoul on July 20th and was joined by the cast members from ‘Show Me the Money’, as well as the amateur rappers.

When asked whether her fellow members (Ga-In, Narsha, JeA)  monitor her appearance on the program, Miryo replied, “They all just enjoy watching the program itself. Because they love hip-hop, it seems like they aren’t watching it for me. They just watch it because the program is fun.”

Regarding her latest performance with hopeful rap contestant Iltong (Seo Sung Jo), in which they had to sing a song related to ‘love’, Miryo expressed her thoughts stating, “It was really difficult.” Without finishing her sentence, she continued, “It’s been so long since I last fell in love…”

In addition, Miryo confessed that she felt traumatized after her solo activities, realizing her shortcomings when standing solo and losing confidence on stage. Miryo had stepped out on her own as a solo artist with her first solo album, ‘MIRYO aka JOHONEY‘ on February 1st.

“To be honest, I struggled after releasing my first solo album earlier this year and I’m still struggling with it. Now that I think about it, I have always been in a group (Honey Family) even in the past and never had a solo career. I realized my shortcomings after leading a stage on my own for the very first time. That was a trauma for me and it eventuallly led me to become extremely nervous.”

“I ended up losing confidence on stage. But now, the survival aspect of the program, ‘Show Me the Money’, added to my stage fright, so I’m disappointed. However, I think I know what my problems are now. I just need to work harder and fix my flaws.”

The rapper also shared her thoughts on performing as a hip-hop artist saying, “A lot of people still only view me as Brown Eyed Girls’ rapper. However, I have a mindset similar to a non-idol member. I’m currently doing what I enjoy. I’m working with hip-hop musicians, rather than idols, so it doesn’t feel awkward at all.”

After School’s UEE reveals that her first kiss was with a fellow trainee on ‘Beatles Code 2′

After School‘s UEE has revealed who her first kiss was with on Mnet‘s ‘Beatles Code 2‘, surprising the viewers, whom had believed her first kiss was with actor Yoo Seung Ho.

On the July 16th broadcast, which featured the members of After School and singer Tak Jae Hoon, the emcees asked the singer, “It says that you had your first kiss with a fellow trainee when you were in your 2nd year of high school?”

To this, UEE nodded and explained, “He did debut, but he’s no longer active.” The singer then confessed that all the members from her former group ‘Five Girls‘ knows the identity of this mysterious man.

‘Five Girls’ which consisted of After School’s UEE, Wonder Girls‘ Yubin, Secret‘s Hyosung, G.NA, and Jiwon, were unable to debut in 2007 due to various reasons and ended up disbanding.

In related news, UEE is currently busy promoting with After School for their latest single, “Flashback“.

Brown Eyed Girls’ Miryo sheds tears after a regretful performance on ‘Show Me the Money’

Brown Eyed Girls‘ Miryo shed tears after putting on a performance she was greatly disappointed with on the latest episode of ‘Show Me the Money‘.

On the July 13th broadcast of Mnet‘s new hip hop program, Miryo was paired up with hopeful rap contestant Iltong (Seo Sung Jo) and prepared their arrangement of Park Jung Woon‘s “If It’s Like Tonight“.

But once Miryo took to the stage in front of the large audience, the rapper suddenly blanked out in the first few seconds of the performance, forgetting the lyrics and beginning to rap in freestyle. Miryo eventually stopped and apologized to the crowd before restarting the performance.

While her second attempt went smoothly, Iltong fumbled the lyrics to a portion of his rap. After the performance, Iltong stated in the interview, “After Miryo made a mistake, my mind just went blank. I think I was extremely nervous.”

Upon seeing their score, Miryo blamed herself and said, “I’m terribly sorry. I feel like it’s all my fault. I thought I’d be able to put up a great performance, but my mind just went blank.”

The rapper then burst into tears back at the waiting room and expressed her disappointment stating, “I was so nervous that my mind went into panic mode. Everything was fine until I began forgetting the lyrics during the rehearsal. I couldn’t continue like that so I stopped during the middle of the performance, but I know I shouldn’t have done that. I only thought about myself which led me to make that mistake.”

After School, Verbal Jint, and Son Dambi added to the line up for ‘Green Groove’ music festival

After School, Verbal Jint, and Son Dambi have been added to the line up for the music festival ‘Green Groove.’

A representative for the ‘Green Groove Festival’ stated on July 10th, “Popular group After School, Verbal Jint as well as Son Dambi have agreed to join the festival.  World star Akon and the Wonder Girls will perform their collaboration song, ‘Like Money‘ and with the addition of the three artists, there will be a lot of variety in the performances.”

After School recently came back with their new song ‘Flashback‘ which has been gaining popularity and shows off their power and sexiness on the stage.  Also, Son Dambi starred in the hit MBC drama ‘Light and Shadow‘ which just went off the air earlier this month and showed that she can be a successful actress as well.  She is preparing for her comeback to the music scene next month and will meet her fans first through her stage at ‘Green Groove.’

Hip Hop artist Verbal Jint has a hit song titled ‘Good Morning‘ featuring 10cm and the two teams will come together for a collaboration stage at the festival.

Also performing at the ‘Green Groove Festival’ will be electro live band Infected Mushroom and many foreign acts as well. Mighty Mouth, stars from Mnet’s ‘Voice Korea‘ Song Seung Yeon, Woo Hae Mi, Yoo Sung Eun, Ji Sae Hee, indie band Delispice, and many more popular groups will all be performing.

The ‘Green Groove Festival’ will take place on July 21st and 22nd in Choong Nam.

Kim Hae Young PD who worked with Lee Hyori on OnStyle’s ‘Golden 12‘ tweeted a couple of photos and wrote, “Lee Hyori!  Appearing on Mnet’s ‘Show me the Money!  Wow daebak!  Everyone who has come to watch the performance get ready for the ride.”

In the photos, Lee Hyori is wearing a daring stage outfit with mesh and looking at the camera with a serious look.

Kim PD went on to mention designer Yohni P and singer Bae Da Hae saying, “The performance was off the hook.  It will be great watching it on TV too.  Everyone backstage is clamoring about when Lee Hyori will release her next album.”

Previously, Lee Hyori tweeted on June 22nd, “I must still like hip hop. ‘Show Me the Money’ is very entertaining.“  Seeing this tweet, the director at Mnet, Shin Hyung Kwan replied saying, “I will contact you if needed. It will be great to unite for a special stage,” which caught the attention of those who thought this was a foreshadowing of things to come.

2NE1 cancels appearance on ‘M! Countdown’ for this week

YG Entertainment as announced that 2NE1 has cancelled their comeback stage for Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown‘, which was scheduled to be held on July 12th.

On July 5th, the ladies made a comeback after a one year hiatus with a track titled ‘I Love You‘ and kicked off their various music program promotions beginning with ‘Inkigayo‘ on the 8th.

However, with the passing of Minzy‘s great aunt (often referred to as her “grandmother” as great aunt in Korean is literally “aunt grandmother”), Gong Ok Jin, who is famous for being a pioneer in Korean cultural dance, 2NE1 has cancelled their upcoming ‘M! Countdown’ performance.

Gong Ok Jin’s funeral will be attended by those in Korean classical music and culture and the funeral is planned to span four days.

A representative of YG Entertainment stated, “Minzy wants to be there to send off her great aunt.  Staff members at the broadcasting companies were very understanding and allowed us to cancel our appearance for this week.”

The members of 2NE1 will still hold the “me2day star chatting” event with their fans through me2day on the 11th, with the exception of Minzy.

All four ladies of 2NE1 will stand on the stage together after the funeral period for Gong Ok Jin has passed.

Lee Hyori to appear on Mnet’s ‘Show Me the Money’

Singer Lee Hyori has been confirmed to appear on Mnet‘s new hip hop program, ‘Show Me the Money‘.

The singer is in discussion with the producers of the program to adjust schedules in order to record. A representative stated, “Because ‘Show Me the Money’ is currently recording episodes 2~3 weeks prior to broadcast, we believe the episode featuring Lee Hyori will air on the 5th or 6th episode.”

Director Shin Hyung Kwan of Mnet said, “When Lee Hyori first expressed her desire to appear on the program via Twitter, I was very happy but began to become suspicious, wondering if it was a fan impersonating Lee Hyori. But after I saw the amount of followers (460,000) the Twitter account had, I was positive that it was her so we immediately went into discussion that night.”

He continued, “Although Lee Hyori expressed her desire to appear on the program on Twitter, it must not have been easy for her, so I was surprised to see her gladly accept the cast offer. I’m happy knowing that her appearance on the program will be an opportunity to spread the genre hip hop.”

Last month, Lee Hyori took to Twitter to show her support for the program and left a message that read, “I seem to still like hip-hop. ‘Show me The Money’ is so fun to watch’.” She then left a message to the PD of the program stating, “Feel free to contact me if you need me, by any chance. I would like to perform together with Illtong.”

DJ DOC’s Lee Ha Neul to make his return with ‘Superstar K4′ after controversy

After seven months since his withdrawal from the entertainment industry, it seems as though singer Lee Ha Neul of DJ DOC will finally be making his TV comeback through Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K4‘.

On July 4th, a representative of Mnet spoke with MyDaily stating, “Lee Ha Neul will be participating as a judge for the preliminary auditions, which will be taking place on July 15th and 18th in Seoul.”

This will mark Lee Ha Neul’s return to the small screen after seven months since the controversy with former DJ DOC member, Park Jung Hwan. However, other broadcast appearances have not yet been decided for the singer.

The rep continued, “Lee Ha Neul has had experience when it comes to judging and because he has such good sense and did it well in the past, the producers of the program decided to propose an offer to the singer, to which he accepted.”

If you don’t remember, seven months ago, DJ DOC‘s former member Park Jung Hwan sued Lee Haneul and Kim Chang Ryul for dissing him as “rhythmicaly challenged” on TV while discussing their past member line-up changes. Lee Ha Neul publicly apologized after realizing that his first apology on the radio had sounded far from sincere. Ha Neul stated that Jung Hwan did not actually lack a sense of rhythm and also revealed that he would be pulling out of the entertainment industry to show how truly sincere he was. However, Park Jung Hwan did not accept the apology and sued Lee Ha Neul a second time. The case was later brought to a close when the courts ruled against Park Jung Hwan.

The girls prepare for TaeTiSeo party on Mnet &#8217;20s Choice&#8217;

Sparkling TaeTiSeo revealed their twinkling party scene on Mnet ‘20′s Choice‘.

TaeTiSeo, the sub-unit group of Girls’ Generation who received the triple crown on Mnet ‘M Count Down‘ and heated up the music industry this year, is to attend the Mnet ’20s Choice’ party on June 28th, which will be held at an outdoor pool in Seoul.

In the recent pictures that were released, you can see the girls enjoying the decorated hotel room, taking selcas and joking around with one another.

Each member dressed in sparkly and fashionable clothes, partied with wine and cake.

Comedian Jang Dong Min involved in a car accident

Comedian Jang Dong Min has reportedly been involved in a car accident on the early morning of June 26th, but has not suffered from any serious injuries.

On June 26th, a representative of his agency stated during a phone call with Issue Daily, “At around 12:30AM, Jang Dong Min was involved in a minor car accident while he was on his way home from a rehearsal for tvN‘s ‘Comedy Big League‘.”

The rep continued, “The accident occured while he was waiting at a red light in Sangam-dong, Seoul when a driver rear-ended his car. Jang Dong Min has been admitted to a hospital in Ilsan with his manager and are both receiving thorough examinations.”

Due to the car accident, Jang Dong Min was unable to attend to the June 26th recording of ‘Comedy Big League’ and the June 27th recording of Mnet‘s ‘Beatles Code 2‘
