‘PICKNIC’ is a Korean Facebook application that suggests users new content, after reviewing and analyzing the things that are shared with friends. ‘PICKNIC’ is holding a special event in order to commemorate the release of their new app, and M.I.B is stepping up to be the first to participate.

Through this service, we will be able to effectively promote M.I.B to the Facebook users in their 20s and 30s, as there is a lot of cultural content that is being consumed,” PICKNIC explained. “We will be using this event with M.I.B as a stepping stone to become a more complex space for social culture.

M.I.B’s CREAM reveals the story behind their song “Dutch Pay” + his dating style

Member CREAM of hip hop group M.I.B revealed his dating style while explaining the story behind one of their songs, ”Dutch Pay“.

CREAM remarked, “Other than our title song “Only Hard For Me“, there is another subtrack titled ‘Dutch Pay’. We compared love to the concept of ‘dutch pay’, and the members and I actually penned the lyrics.

He continued, “Before our debut, we went to the States and stayed with a producer hyung in the area. I went to a café with him once and after we were done drinking our coffee, he suggested that we go dutch (split the bill). I told him that in Korea, usually the older person or the man pays, and I pestered him to pay for me. The members and I applied that scenario from that day to the concept to love, and the song that came out of it was ‘Dutch Pay’.”

When asked if he was the kind of guy that prefers ‘dutch pay (equal give and take)’ when it comes to a love relationship, CREAM answered, “Yes, I think I am the ‘dutch pay’ type. Your feelings for one another have to be equal. If it’s one sided, it fails to be beautiful.

When it comes to dates, it’s possible for the person who is more financially stable to pay, but your heart and your feelings for one another should be the same,” he added.

M.I.B is a hip-hop group produced by Jungle Entertainment, the label home to major Korean hip hop artists such as LeeSSang, Yoon Mirae, Tiger JK, and more. The boys recently released their new mini-album ‘Illusion‘, and are actively promoting their new song “Only Hard For Me”.

M.I.B. comments on overcoming their lackluster debut

M.I.B.‘s debut last year arguably received a lot of spotlight, as they were the first idol style hip hop group to be produced by Jungle Entertainment, a label nicknamed the ‘SM of Hip Hop’.

In their latest interview with Sports Donga, the boys admitted that their results fell short of expectations, despite their confidence in their abilities. The boys began, “We felt that there hadn’t been a hip hop group like us yet and knew that we had a differentiating factor so there was the anticipation that we’d hit daebak. The public, however, was cold. Things didn’t go the way we thought, and we were also lacking, as well as ‘G.D.M.’ sounding kind of countrified… We thought it was cool at the time, but we thought wrong.”

M.I.B. is no longer an ‘idol hip hop group’ and now stand on unclear grounds, which is their latest concern. “There is a bit of an idol factor in us but we’re not actually idols. We’re concerned that people will not be able to see where we stand.”

They continued, “There hasn’t been a hip hop group since 1TYM, and we’re confident that we’re unique, though. Hip hop can never be a leading genre in the Korean music industry, which is why we’re honestly not traditional in the hip hop sense. We’re kind of mixed. It’ll take a lot of time for our underground industry to be accepted by the public like in America. We’re going to aid in that effort.”

On their debut, they added, “It might be fortunate for us that we didn’t do well right from the start because it might’ve made us lazy. It’s because we fared poorly that we were determined to create even better music and continue to grow.”

On their comeback track, “Only Hard for Me“, the boys expressed, “Our goal for our debut was to get our name out there in Korean hip hop but I think we’ve stepped a bit off from there. Instead, we want this new album to allow us to be one step closer with the public and act as a stepping stone to the production of our next album.”

The boys concluded, “Our goal this year was to win a rookie award, but there have been a lot of amazing debuts like Ailee and Busker Busker (laughter)! We’d be content with just being nominated since we can work for the ‘Daesang’ next year. We want to be a group that represents Korean hip hop. A name that always has the tag ‘hip hop’ coming after it. It’d be great if we could become role models for future artists pursuing hip hop as well.”

M.I.B discuss how they’ve developed as a hip hop group since their debut

Hip hop group M.I.B is back with their latest album ‘Illusion‘ and a new contrast in style from their debut track, “G.D.M.“.

By combining modern melodies and dramatic raps, the group has switched from a rebellious debut image to that of a smoother one that’s already catching a lot of eyes.

Member Cream expressed, “We put our focus on conversing with the public through our emotions this time. By emphasizing Kangnam hyung’s vocals, we added some pop elements that I trust will allow us to get closer to the public and form the path we’ll be walking down in the future. In the beginning, we were focused on making our own music and showing that to the public, but this time, we’re taking in the feedback of the people around us.”

The members revealed that their mindsets have changed with their comeback. Although they debuted as a free-spirited hip hop group, they began to realize the importance of working with the public in developing their style.

5ZiC stated, “We wanted the public to let us approach them more comfortably. By switching our song title from English to Korean and by taking off my sunglasses and revealing my face, we wanted to just approach everyone comfortably. The members have all lost weight and gotten cooler looking, not that we still don’t look a bit countrified now. We do feel like we’ve gotten cooler compared to our first album, though.”

Although they’re just six months into their debut, the group went through a difficult April with the death of their stylists from a dorm fire the day of their comeback for “Celebrate“. The boys canceled their comeback stage and set aside promotions for “Celebrate”.

Kangnam stated, “The four of us had a really rough time. I never listened to ‘Celebrate’ again after what had happened. It’s a really great song, but I just couldn’t bring myself to listen to it again. I’m sure the other members feel the same way.”

The group buried the song deep in their hearts along with their sorrow over the loss of their stylists, but kept moving forward to show maturity and improvement with their next work.

5ZiC concluded, “I think we’ve lost a lot of the awkwardness on our stage now. We’ll work hard until our fans think it’s perfect.”
