Juniel reveals she is also in love with ‘Reply 1997′

Singer Juniel recently revealed she is an avid fan of the drama ‘Reply 1997′ as well.

During her appearance on ‘Boom’s Young Street‘ Juniel stated, “I’m really into ‘Reply 1997′ these days even though I was 4 years old in 1997.

She also sang her own recreated version of Yangpa‘s ”Young Love“, which was played during a scene in ‘Reply 1997′. Although Juniel was only four when the song ”Young Love” first came out, she was able to sing with the same emotions as Yangpa did back in 1997.

Juniel had also brought her first guitar ‘Bba-ni-ni’ to the radio show that day, revealing ‘Bba-ni-ni’ was the sister of AOA member Jimin‘s guitar, ‘Banana’.

Singer Juniel makes a surprise cameo on ‘Gentlemen’s Class’

Rookie soloist Juniel surprised viewers as the singer made an unexpected cameo on SBS‘s popular weekend drama, ‘Gentlemen’s Class‘.

On the July 7th episode (13) of ‘Gentlemen’s Class’, Juniel briefly appeared in a scene as a street performer performing at a playground in Hongdae. After the broadcast, Juniel became the #1 most searched public figure on various portal sites and her scene in the drama became a hot topic.

A producer of the drama spoke up stating “While we were in the middle of searching for somebody who could perform live, we heard that rookie artist Juniel had experience in live street performances in Japan, so we sent a cameo request to her side.

Juniel also commented, “I had no confidence in acting so I wasn’t greedy in wanting to be cast in a drama. But because the producers of the drama viewed me nicely upon hearing my music, I gladly accepted the offer to cameo as a street performer. There weren’t any script for me in that scene and they just told me to casually perform just like what I have done in Japan, so I did my utmost best.”

The song Juniel performed live in the drama was her self-composed song “Everlasting Sunset” from her debut album ‘My First June‘.

Rookie singer Juniel reveals her relationship with singer IU prior to her debut

Rookie singer Juniel who is increasingly gaining popularity with her charming voice and doll-like looks recently revealed her relationship with singer IU.

Juniel who has been dubbed as the “2nd IU” insisted during her interview that she was “not worthy enough to even be compared with IU“.

However, she did reveal her somewhat close relationship with IU. Juniel stated, “During my days as a trainee I personally met IU three times. A close older colleague of mine from elementary school was in the same entertainment as IU at that time. One day when I had free time and decided to meet up with that colleague, she had told me there was a “dongseng” she wanted to introduce me to. That person was IU.

She continued with, “The first time we met we went to go see a musical together. The second time we met, we went to a karaoke room and had a blast. We also went to a café afterwards and talked for a really long time. Because we are both the same age, IU and I were able to speak comfortably and easily relate to one another pretty quickly.

When Juniel was asked the question, “Do you two still hang out?” she shook her head and stated, “After we met about three times, I got rid of my phone to concentrate on training and rehearsing. That is when we stopped contacting each other and soon afterwards she had made her debut under the name IU. I’m not even sure if she remembers me. I haven’t had the chance to see her yet.

As for her title as the “2nd IU” Juniel stated, “I am extremely thankful of this title. However, I want to become a singer known for my own musical color and want to write legendary music. It has been four years since IU’s debut, but it has only been a week for me. I feel like I have received such a title because I have not had enough time to show everyone the kind of artist that I am. As time goes by and I have am more able to show everyone my own style of music, I believe that title will disappear. My goal is to showcase my own unique colors and become the best singer-song writer.

Juniel, who was already widely known in Japan, made her debut in Korea on June 7th with her title song “Illa Illa“.

Juniel clears up rumors about giving IU guitar lessons

Singer Juniel discussed how she met IU as a trainee.

In an interview with Sports Korea on June 11, Juniel revealed, “I met IU a couple of times during my trainee days through an acquaintance. Since we were around the same age and both of us had similar interests, we got along very well.”

She also commented on the rumors that she was IU’s guitar teacher, explaining that though she introduced IU to the guitar, she has not given IU any lessons.

Juniel went on, “Whenever I ran into her, IU always had a guitar strapped to her. Since she showed interest, I suggested that she learn how to play. I later heard that the agency made a proposal, and IU was able to learn the guitar.”

Juniel released her debut mini-album ‘My First June‘ on the 7th. She’s reported to have co-composed most of the songs on the album. Both her title track “Illa Illa” and duet with CNBLUE‘s Jung Yonghwa, “Stupid“, have been ranking high on music charts.

Juniel’s popularity is rapidly increasing

According to music charts, Juniel is ascending in popularity, despite having debuted only a week ago!

During Juniel’s debut stages on Mnet‘s ‘MCountdown’, KBS2‘s ‘Music Bank’, MBC‘s ‘Show! Music Core’, and SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo’, Juniel’s name became the most searched item among Korea’s top portal sites, indicating that many people have become interested in the rookie singer. Furthermore, during the live broadcasting of Juniel’s performances, her duet with Jung Yonghwa, ‘Stupid’, immediately swept up to first place among music charts such as Cyworld Music and Melon, while her debut song ‘Illa Illa’ rose to fourth place.

Juniel’s sudden rise in popularity may be due to her songs’ soothing tunes and lyrics. In addition, Jung Yonghwa’s composing ability particularly shines through ‘Stupid’, as it is not only a charming song, but one that takes advantage of Juniel’s wide vocal range, and is a fitting way to introduce Juniel’s voice into the K-Pop scene. ‘Stupid’ and the songs featured on Juniel’s album ‘Illa Illa‘ all have a slight sense of passion and are also loaded with sweetness. Juniel’s “Illa Illa” is especially a simple, yet meaningful song that, as she has explained before, refers to the memories of one’s first love that one recalls upon seeing a wild flower.

Just last week, Juniel made her official debut and held a showcase. Yet almost instantly, she has risen to the position where the top idols stand on the music charts. With her solid looks and beautiful voice, Juniel may soon be considered intimidating competition, despite only being a rookie!
