Mighty Mouth’s Sangchu is preparing to enlist in the Korean military





Mighty Mouth‘s Sangchu is preparing for his military enlistment.


A representative from Mighty Mouth’s agency informed Newsen on August 20th, “As Sangchu publicly revealed, he received notice to serve as a public worker, but he would like to enlist as an active-duty soldier. He will most likely be receiving his physical examination in early September.”


Ahead of this, Sangchu remarked at a showcase this May, “I suffered an injury and therefore was assigned to become a public service worker, however, I would like to enlist as an active-duty solider. I am almost done with my treatments, and I am planning on enlisting towards the end of this year.”


His agency rep added, “Because of his strong desire to enlist as an active soldier, Sangchu has taken good care of his health. We cannot predict the results of the examination, however, it looks as though he will be able to enlist for active duty.


In related news, Sangchu is making a cameo appearance in SBSTo The Beautiful You‘.

Ji Hyun Woo to enlist on August 7th





 


Yoo In Na‘s man” Ji Hyun Woo will be enlisting on August 7th.


Ji Hyun Woo’s agency told Sports Seoul on July 15th, “Ji Hyun Woo will be enlisting on August 7th. Currently, he is receiving treatments for his injury once every two to three days and resting.


Ji Hyun Woo was supposed to enlist on July 3rd but it was postponed because of an injury he suffered while filming ‘Queen Inhyun’s Man‘.


On another note, Ji Hyun Woo began dating his co-star of ‘Queen Inhyun’s Man’, Yoo In Na in June and was spotted attending IU‘s concert together on June 30th.

SS501′s Kim Kyu Jong to report for duty on July 23rd





While the other SS501 members embark on solo activities, member Kim Kyu Jong will be reporting for his mandatory military service on July 23rd.


On July 2nd, B2M Entertainment announced that Kim Kyu Jong would be entering the Recruit Training Center (RTC) on the 23rd. There, he will have basic training for four weeks, before officially enlisting in the army for 2 years.


It has been additionally reported that the SS501 member was initially exempted from mandatory military service due to the fact that he was found to be a hepatitis B-type carrier. After the revision of the military service law, however, Kim Kyu Jong has been classified as draftable, and must now fulfill his military service.


Last month, Kim Kyu Jong commented on this piece of news at his fellow member Kim Hyung Joon‘s showcase, saying, “Everyone goes to the military; I have nothing to say in particular. The other members will take care of my vacant spot, and I will of course return from my military service to [eventually] take my position [again].


Despite the few words he shared, it seems that Kim Kyu Jong is planning on formally saying goodbye, as the SS501 member will be giving his fans a meaningful, original composition as a present sometime in the near future.

Rain claims that all girl groups and actresses are now ‘Goddesses’ to him





‘World-Star’ Rain, who is currently in the process of completing his mandatory military service, has recently revealed his affectionate feelings for girl groups.


On June 16th, the singer / actor had an interview before the ‘K-Pop Special Concert‘, which was held at the Yeosu Expo.


When he was asked to compare the differences between before and after entering the military, Rain answered, “Well, I was able to realize that all girl groups and actresses who come on TV are ‘Goddesses’.” For those who aren’t aware, Korean soldiers serving in military have limited access to the web or electronic devices, but can watch music shows together on TV during their free time. Which is why, for obvious reasons, these male soldiers go crazy about girl groups.


Later on when he was asked, “If you were to serve in the military again, who would you bring along?“, Rain hilariously responded, “Who do you think? Of course with a woman. Do you think I would come back here with a guy? I would want to bring my friends, but if I were to really serve in the military again, I would definitely bring a female no matter what.


In related news, the ‘K-Pop Special Concert’ at the Yeosu Expo will feature Rain, Park Hyo Shin, and KCM, who are all serving in the military, as well as Nine Muses.

Military Music Festival to feature Girl’s Day, Rania, Rain & more








It’s been announced that the annual Military Music Festival has been scheduled to take place on June 23rd in Gongjoo City, featuring idol performances and a singer competition by soldiers and civilians alike. Sponsored by the 32nd Division of the army trading command (ROKA), the event celebrates the Fallen Patriots & Veterans’ Month.


The pre-event ceremony will feature a performance by the army band, the Honor Guard Drill Team, the special forces’ martial arts routine, and army music video. Concert performances include Jang Yung Jung, Girl’s Day, Rania, Ruby and more, as well as celebrity PR soldiers such as Rain and Park Hyo Shin.


The singing competition has been drawing team application and is expected to involve over 5,000 people. The first 30 teams (10 soldier teams, 20 civilian teams) will be accepted for preliminaries, and 10 teams will be selected to advance to the finals. Seven finalists will receive monetary prizes, and the competition winners will receive a trophy and 2 million won (~$1700 USD).

Epik High’s Mithra Jin officially discharged from the Korean military





Epik High‘s Mithra Jin (29) has been officially discharged from the military.


Mithra held a special commemoration event at the Yongsan-gu Ministry of National Defense on May 14th, where he was asked if there was a particular girl group that helped him pass the time while he was in the military.


I didn’t get to watch too many music program performances,” he said. “I watched Dynamic Duo more than I did girl groups.”


I found joy in watching performances of those who have been discharged,” he continued. “I recently saw comedian Yang Sae Chan on tvN‘s ‘Comedy Big League‘, and I think he’s going to have to work a little harder,” he joked.


Mithra Jin enlisted in the Korean military back in August of 2010. He and his fellow Epik High member Tablo and DJ Tukutz are one of Korea’s top hip-hop artists, receiving much love and support from fans for songs such as “Day of Peace“, “Fly“, “Fan“, and more.

JYJ’s Yoochun confirmed to serve as a public service personnel in the army





Due to his asthma, JYJ‘s Yoochun has been revealed to be designated as a public service personnel for his service in the army.


On May 3rd, a representative of C-JeS Entertainment revealed, “Yoochun recently underwent his physical exam and received a level four grade due to his asthma, which he’s had since he was younger.”


He continued, “Yoochun complied with all of the examinations required by the Military Manpower Association, and even received a retest three times. In the end, the Military Manpower Assocation decided that he would be best fit for reservist duty so he will serve as a public service personnel.”


Due to his busy schedule along with his current work in SBS‘s ‘Rooftop Prince‘, Yoochun has delayed his enlistment to a later date.
