‘Running Man’ pokes fun at Olympics fencing controversy

SBS‘s Running Man was the latest show to make a sideways swipe at the 2012 London Olympics’ alleged mistaken ruling over the fencing match involving South Korean fencer Shin Ah Lam.

In the beginning of the episode, the show aired a brief segment detailing what had happened during the last week. With the caption “Superpowers exist?” the show parodied the several mistakes that the Olympic judges had allegedly made, giving them the titles of “The one with the power to stop time” and “The one who can see what high-speed cameras fail to see”.

Shin Ah Lam had missed out on an opportunity to win a medal when the timer accidentally stopped with one second left on the clock, during which her opponent took the chance to hit her multiple times.

Other shows, such as ‘Gag Concert‘ and ‘Infinity Challenge’, had also poked fun at the incident.

‘Healing Camp’ cast criticized for improper etiquette during 2012 London Olympics

The cast of SBS ‘Healing Camp’ is receiving some flak over their perceived lack of manners in the latest episode.

To celebrate the 2012 London Olympics, the cast of ‘Healing Camp’ – Lee Kyung Gyu, Han Hye Jin, and Kim Jae Dong – flew out to Great Britain to interview some of the South Korean athletes.

The incident arose when they visited the arena for Korean rifleman Jin Jong Oh, who was competing at the time. When it was confirmed that he would be winning the gold, the cast shouted loudly in surprise then quickly sat back down after disapproving looks from the audience. According to proper etiquette, the audience must remain quiet until all of the shooters have finished the competition, since shooting takes extreme precision and a high level of focus.

Viewers expressed their disappointment at both the cast and the editors. “I finally figured out who was behind that embarrassing scream,” one viewer criticized. “I think an apology is in order.”

Others criticized the poor editing, wondering if the scene couldn’t have been cut out. “Did they want the cast to suffer? That scene could have been edited out easily.”

The cast and crew members flew to London to film the London Olympics special for the program. But once the episode aired on August 4th, netizens were quick to spot a foreigner degrading the hosts (Lee Kyung Gyu, Kim Jae Dong, and Han Hye Jin) by pulling back the skin on either side of his eyes.

Netizens commented, “This is shocking“, “He should be ashamed of himself“, and “Can’t believe he did that in public“.

In related news, Swiss soccer player Michel Morganella was expelled from the Olympics after leaving a racist message on Twitter about South Koreans. The post was made shortly after Switzerland lost to South Korea 2:1 on July 29th.

Comparison of Park Tae Hwan and Michael Phelps’ Olympic-sized meals shock netizens

‘Marine Boy’ Park Tae Hwan‘s humongous 6,500 calorie diet and Michael Phelp‘s previous 12,000 calorie diet have been revealed!

Netizens were left in shock when the athletes’ voracious appetites were disclosed online. According to Park Tae Hwan’s staff, “If the swimmer craves ramen than a whole box of ramen needs to be opened,” and “He can finish a loaf of bread in the blink of an eye.”

Every morning, Park Tae Hwan consumes 8-10 pieces of bread, a cup of coffee milk, and finishes the meal with one grapefruit. For lunch, he switches it up to Korean cuisine, eating a meal consisting of a bowl of white rice, dwenjang jjigae (bean paste stew), a rolled egg, and gim (dried seaweed). His dinner is a feast. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, he eats 10-15 plates (20-30 pieces) of fushion sushi along with orange juice, while on Tuesdays and Thursdays, his menu includes bokkeumbap (Korean fried rice) with kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), gganpoongi (deep fried spicy chicken), and a kimchi pancake. On the weekends, the swimmer eats samgyupsal (pork belly) with rice, mushrooms, garlic, and other vegetables.

Michael Phelps’ previous daily diet was definitely more of an American-style meal and even higher in calories. In preparation for the ‘2008 Beijing Olympics‘, the American swimmer consumed 12,000 calories a day. His menu was as shown in the photos below, but he’s reported to have recently adjusted his diet to more nutrient-rich foods with less calories.

Netizens who came across the photos responded, “Say what…” “You have to eat well to be strong,” “A whopping 10 slices of bread in the morning,” and “That’s Daebak,” unable to hide their astonishment.
