YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk reveals new photo of his pretty daughter

YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk has revealed a photo of his daughter, Yoo Jin, for the first time in many months.

Yang Hyun Suk recently changed one of his SNS profile pictures to the photo above of himself and Yoo Jin. From the photo, fans were able to feel the father’s affection towards his daughter and further affirmed Yang Hyun Suk’s reputation of being crazy about his daughter and being a loving father. Fans also took notice that Yoo Jin is now old enough to walk on her own!

Yang Hyun Suk and his wife Lee Eun Joo had their first daughter in August 2010, and the couple are expecting their second child soon.

Meanwhile, Yang Hyun Suk is currently acting as a judge alongside J.Y. Park and BoA on SBS‘s ‘K-POP Star‘.

YG Family reveals Yang Hyun Suk is not as gentle as he seems on ‘K-Pop Star’

When it comes to Yang Hyun Suk‘s gentle, fatherly image on ‘K-Pop Star’, it seems that there is more to it than meets the eye.

On the March 27th broadcast of SBS‘s ‘Strong Heart‘, the members of YG Entertainment gathered for a YG Family special episode. In the episode, MC Lee Seung Gi took the opportunity to ask YG Family about Yang Hyun Suk’s real self.

Yang Hyun Suk, who is currently serving as a judge on ‘K-pop Star‘, was not present during the recording, and so the YG Family members began to reveal various secrets regarding their mentor. In regards to Yang Hyun Suk’s kind and gentle image on ‘K-pop Star’, Big Bang member Daesung commented, “I think our boss is infatuated with his angel-like image on ‘K-pop Star’.”

He continued, “On the show, he is very kind and encouraging to the contestants but I have never seen that side of him in real life. I only see that on television.”

Fellow Big Bang member G-Dragon added, “I have never directly received a compliment or positive feedback from him. However, he says good things about us to other people and we hear those through them.”

2NE1′s CL was hurt by a comment made by Yang Hyun Suk

2NE1‘s CL recently shared a story about how she was hurt by CEO Yang Hyun Suk‘s words.

On the March 27th episode of SBS‘s ‘Strong Heart – YG Family Special‘, CL was asked if she had any negative feelings or was dissatisfied with CEO Yang Hyun Suk. The member replied,”I actually do. He keeps telling me that I’m ugly,” she said, revealing the scar she received from him.

“He bluntly tells me that I’m ugly. CEO Yang once visited us while we were rehearsing for our concert. I didn’t have any makeup on at that time and when he saw me, he told me ‘You’re very ugly’,” she explained.

She continued, “We were just rehearsing so none of us had makeup on, but after hearing those words, it really hurt me.”

In addition, CL also revealed some knowledge on how she leads the group by saying that she uses her “ahjumma accent”. “Because there’s an age gap between the members, I try to brighten the atmosphere by using my ‘ahjumma accent’.”

Poor CL, she’s definitely not ugly!

Yang Hyun Suk expresses his nervousness for the live broadcast of ‘K-Pop Star’

It has already been 16 years since the disbandment of Seo Taiji and Boys. Now, standing as a CEO of one of Korea’s leading entertainment agencies, Yang Hyun Suk, who has been actively judging on SBS‘ ‘K-Pop Star‘, will be appearing on his first live broadcast in 16 years. How does he feel? Osen was recently given the opportunity to have a brief phone conversation with the CEO.

“I’m probably more nervous right now than the top 10 finalists. Ever since the disbandment of Seo Taeji and Boys, I have rarely appeared on television. I’ve been so concentrated on the company to the point that I’ve even forgotten that I’m a celebrity myself,” Yang stated.

Despite Yang’s over-packed schedule, he has made room to prepare and do his upmost best for ‘K-pop Star’. While Big Bang will be busy for their first world tour coming up this weekend, CEO Yang will be making his first live appearance on broadcast in 16 years.

Meanwhile, with a high of 17% in viewer ratings, ‘K-Pop Star’ has been going up against popular programs such as KBS 2TV‘s ‘1 Night 2 Days‘ in terms of viewer ratings and interest.

Yang continued, “Not a lot of people recognized me with my hat on before I appeared on ‘K-Pop Star’ but now, it’s the total opposite. I have realized how temendously popular ‘K-Pop Star’ is and at the same time, I’ve once again realized that I’m too a celebrity,” he said with a laugh.

‘K-Pop Star’ will finally be airing its long-awaited first live broadcast on the 4th at 6pm KST with performances by the top 10 finalists.

Yang Hyun Suk, “I don’t think I can ever create another group like Big Bang”

As Big Bang prepares for a full scale comeback, YG Entertainment‘s CEO Yang Hyun Suk recently stated that he doesn’t believe that he can create another group like Big Bang.

In an interview at the YG Entertainment headquarters, Yang Hyun Suk said, “Though I may create many more groups in the future, I think it will be incredibly difficult for me to create a group that has such a perfect mix of members as Big Bang does.”

Big Bang is known for being made up of members with unique colors, and as Yang explains, they are not the best looking group nor the best dancing group. However, this blend of individual charms combined with their engaging performances have won them countless fans in Korea.

Yang continued, “One of the common traits of Korean and Japanese idols is the synchronized choreography, but since Big Bang is all about freely enjoying their stage, I think this has allowed them to gain fans not just in Korea and Japan, but around the world.”

In regards to Big Bang’s highly anticipated upcoming album ‘Alive‘, he said, “Instead of focusing on musical change, it is an album that focuses on musical diversity. It is because we want to distinguish each song’s uniqueness that we are promoting all six as title songs.”

He continued, “I am sure this is the first time in Korea that all the songs on an album are used as title tracks. I don’t think it means too much for one song to win #1 multiple times on music programs. Rather, it is more important to promote Big Bang’s brand as well as the entire album.”

In related news, Big Bang’s comeback album ‘Alive’ will be released on the 29th, after which Big Bang will kick off a world tour in Seoul on March 2-4th.

An older photo of YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk, Seo Taiji, and Kim Won Jun in the 90′s has captured the attention of netizens.

The above photo surfaced on an online community site on February 21st with the title, “A snapshot of the three flower boys Seo Taiji, YG, Won Jun backstage in ’93.”

Singer Kim Won Jun had the same ‘baby face’ he does now, and netizens grew nostalgic upon seeing a lankier YG with blonde hair, while Seo Taiji’s same youthful image drew envy amongst fans.

“Can’t believe they’re in their forties now,” they wrote, along with “Seo Taiji looks exactly the same, twenty years later.”

Se7en compares his CEO Yang Hyun Suk to producer J.Y. Park

Singer Se7en who recently made a comeback with “When I Can’t Sing” compared YG Entertainment‘s CEO Yang Hyun Suk with JYP Entertainment CEO, J.Y. Park.

On the February 17th airing of SBS Power FM ‘Choi Hwa Jung‘s Power Time‘, Se7en honestly talked about what it’s like to promote in Korea after a long hiatus and the things that happened after his comeback.

In regards to securing a #1 K-Chart win with his song “When I Can’t Sing” written by J.Y. Park he said, “I had a good feeling when I first heard the song. I wanted a song with which I could stand tall and proud in front of my fans, since I was making a comeback after so long, and this was it. I knew it would do well.”

DJ Choi Hwa Jung then asked, “Between Yang Hyun Suk and Park Jin Young, who would you like to have a drink with?”, and Se7en answered, “I would like to drink with the both of them. To be honest, Yang Hyun Suk is my boss, and because I see him all the time, I feel completely comfortable drinking with him alone. But I think with J.Y. Park, it would be awkward to have a drink just by ourselves.”

“It it because he’s a senior artist?” Choi Hwa Jung asked again, and Se7en remarked, “Not only is he a senior artist, he’s also the CEO of a different company. And in a setting like that, Yang Hyun Suk is a lot of fun, whereas J.Y. Park is really genuine and serious.”

Se7en also remarked on the program that girl groups ‘Girls’ Generation‘ and ‘miss A‘ have caught his attention.

Yang Hyun Suk discusses Big Bang’s comeback

2011 was without a doubt one of the worst years for YG Entertainment, a company that houses some of K-Pop’s most recognizable names. From Daesung’s car accident to the controversy surrounding G-Dragon’s alleged use of marijuana, the past year has left a large dent onto not only the two aforementioned idols, but on to the company’s image as well. While the incidents involving the two idols have become resolved one way or the other, Yang Hyun Suk, founder and CEO of the company has expressed much hope for 2012. He envisions 2012 as the year to recover the company financially and to mend YG’s controversy-stricken image.

Currently, YG’s main focus is to re-establish Big Bang as a unit. The group is arguably the company’s poster of success, and considering its huge role in generating a significant percentage of YG’s income, making Big Bang’s comeback as smooth as possible is a strategical move for both the company and the group’s fans.

“I had no one to blame but my self” says Yang, “The Big Bang members are like my children. I’ve been coaching them since they were little kids, watching them develop from amateurs into pros. So naturally, I took the accidents into consideration not as a businessman, but much like how a parent would”

Yang, as a former member of K-Pop pioneers Seo Taiji and the Boys, knows better than anyone of the troubles of being an iconic figure in the industry. He stated that this was one of the many factors that enables him to keep an understanding mindset when it comes to dealing with his artists.

“I’ve spent the last ten years reprimanding, teaching and disciplining the boys as a father would,” says Yang, “It broke my heart to see [G-Dragon and Daesung] suffer because I couldn’t do anything to ease the emotional trauma they suffered”

“I think the boys and I all learned a lesson from what happened in 2011,” continued Yang, “After the two controversies broke out, each and every single member didn’t go out on their free time; they solely dedicated themselves to their work. The boys became stronger than ever as artists, and as a group”

Yang then expressed that he is looking towards 2012 under a positive light. While the controversy dimmed the company’s ability to prosper for the time being, he is anticipating much to be accomplished in the New Year, starting off with Big Bang.

Big Bang is currently preparing for a comeback this February, and because K-Pop has to now cater not only to the Korean audience, but practically the entire world, Yang feels the pressure to release material that nears perfection.

Aside from the group’s impending return, Big Bang has a lot coming to them for 2012. With a series of heavy promotions expected for their upcoming album “Alive“, the group is also planning to embark on their first world tour, with show dates not just in Asia, but in Europe and North America as well.

Yang Hyun Suk would welcome Jung Hyung Don into YG Entertainment

On a recent recording of MBC Every1‘s ‘Weekly Idol‘, comedian Jung Hyung Don had jokingly asked if YG Entertainment recruited gagmen in hopes of joining the label.

The episode featured a segment where Jung Hyung Don called up YG Entertainment officials to tell them news of G-Dragon winning yet another poll held amongst idols. During the call, he asked, “Does YG not recruit gagmen?”

Although it was said as a joke, YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk readily welcomed the gagman. On January 27th, in an interview with E-Daily, he revealed, “If Jung Hyung Don really meant what he said, I would like to discuss a management contract with him.”

He continued, “Not only myself, but the majority of our company staff are fans of Jung Hyung Don. If he would come, I think I’d actually be really thankful.”

Jung Hyung Don actually isn’t signed with an agency at the moment, and his relationship with YG stars dates back to ‘Infinity Challenge‘, where he collaborated with Big Bang‘s G-Dragon.

Seotaiji is happy for Lee Juno & Yang Hyun Suk

Singer Seotaiji recently expressed his envy and happiness for both of his former group mates Yang Hyun Suk and Lee Juno.

On the 23rd, Seotaiji greeted his fans for the first time in a while by writing to them on his official homepage.

Seotaiji who has now been in the industry for 20 long years wrote, “Oh My… already 20 years. Looking back, there are so many things that happened in that time. Some things I remember so vividly while other memories are a bit fuzzy. Thinking about what will happen from now on and when those things will come to an end… Time is such an indefinite thing, but that’s the beauty of it.”

He continued, “It didn’t seem real to me that a whole 20 years had passed, but not too long ago when I heard YG (Yang Hyun Suk) was looking forward to his second child, and Lee Juno hyung just became a father (jealous!)… it was then I realized, two decades really have passed me by.”

Yang Hyun Suk’s wife Lee Eunjoo is currently five months pregnant with their second child and is scheduled to give birth next May, and Lee Juno who announced his marriage to his wife, 23 years his junior, set eyes on his daughter for the very first time on the 19th.

In closing, Seotaiji remarked, “Juno hyung, YG, congratulations and I pray that your family will be full of love and joy.”

BoA, Yang Hyun Suk, & J.Y. Park finally record together for SBS’s ‘K-POP STAR’

Hyped as one of the biggest audition shows yet, SBS‘s ‘Survival Audition K-POP Star” (or “K-POP Star”) finally saw all three of its judges record an episode together for the first time.

On November 7th, Yang Hyun Suk, J.Y. Park, and BoA came together as judges and representatives of the ‘Big 3′ agencies in Korea (YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and SM Entertainment). BoA and J.Y. Park already started the audition process for overseas hopefuls, with BoA flying out to L.A. and J.Y. Park coming to New York City.

On this day, however, all three judges came together to oversee auditions as a trio. The first time the judges came on set, they couldn’t help but feel nostalgic over their own audition process. The three thought back to the first time they auditioned to be a star, and shared their personal experiences.

A staff member of the program remarked,  ”Judges Yang Hyun Suk, J.Y. Park, and BoA judged the contestants honestly and fairly; while they pointed out strengths, they weren’t afraid to criticize any shortcomings as well. There are a lot of highly qualified contestants so the competition is fierce, and we feel as though this will be the greatest survival audition to find the world’s best K-Pop star. We hope you will look forward to the season, which will kick off in December.”

The names of the judges alone are heightening expectations for the show, but foreign contestants are also becoming one of the key points — demonstrating that the Hallyu wave is blowing strong all across the globe.

The winner of SBS’s “K-Pop Star” will win $300,000 USD and an opportunity to produce their own album with the agency of their choice. They will also gain the chance to film a CF and a personal car as well. The first episode airs sometime in December.
