‘K-Pop Stars Captivating the World’ to follow around Hallyu star Kim Hyun Joong





Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong will be sharing his hidden passions through an MBC special titled K-Pop Stars Captivating the World‘.


The program will be following top K-Pop stars like Kim Hyun Joong, CNBLUE, BEAST, and IU and go through a full 24 hour day with them to see just what is behind the scenes, in an effort to better determine whether the Hallyu wave can continue to grow all over the world or eventually run stagnant.


The focus will be on Kim Hyun Joong, especially since he’s created a Hallyu empire with his name alone. One Japanese critic had stated, “In 2012, the direction of K-Pop will change to focus on solo artists, and Kim Hyun Joong is expected to stand as leader of that change. All eyes are on him.”


‘K-Pop Stars Captivating the World’ will give a glimpse into his international activities and the preparation he undergoes for his concert at the Yokohama Arena.


The program airs on April 14th.

Kim Hyun Joong reviewing the script of “Conquest of the City”





Many are interested in whether Kim Hyun Joong will come back to the small screen as an actor through the upcoming drama ‘Conquest of the City’.


His company, Key East, told TV Report on April 6th, “Nothing has been finalized. He has been receiving a lot of casting calls and this one is one of them. We are looking at it, as of now.”


‘Conquest of the City’ is a comic-turned-drama that talks about the evil and the unlawful aspects of society. The comic has been published since 1996 and the 270 issues have sold 10 million copies.


Kim Hyun Joong’s last acting gig was ‘Playful Kiss’ on MBC, back in 2010. He was going to star in ‘Speed’, but had to let it go because of his busy schedule.

Kim Hyun Joong to record tvN’s ‘The Wedding Scheme’ OST





Singer, Kim Hyun Joong will be contributing to the creation of tvN‘s ‘The Wedding Scheme‘ OST!


After hearing that Lee Min Woo would be directing a new romantic comedy drama, Kim Hyun Joong immediately volunteered to give a hand by singing the OST for the drama. Lee Min Woo is famous for his past project, drama ‘Boys Over Flowers‘, which was immensely popular.  Kim Hyun Joong befriended director Lee Min Woo and has been in close contact ever since.


Kim Hyun Joong will be singing the drama’s main theme song, “If You’re like Me“, which is described as sorrowful, yet elegant.  Different from the rougher and more powerful sounds Kim Hyun Joong displayed in his previous title tracks, “Breakdown” and “Lucky Guy“, he will be showcasing a softer and sweeter voice this time around.


The OST will be revealed as a teaser through Mnet‘s homepage and other online music sites. The official release date is April 3rd.

Kim Hyun Joong becomes the first interviewed celebrity on ‘Yahoo! Celeb’





Singer / actor Kim Hyun Joong will be greeting his fans all over the world fans through an entertainment site that Yahoo! Korea, called ‘Yahoo! Celeb.’


‘Yahoo! Celeb’ is Korea’s version of America’s ‘Yahoo! OMG‘ and specializes in entertainment news from both domestic and abroad that cannot be found anywhere else, and Kim Hyun Joong became the first celebrity to be interviewed by the site.


To commemorate the interview, an event will be held called, ‘Kim Hyun Joong and Yahoo! Celeb’s Mission Interview’.


A staff from Yahoo! Korea said, “Kim Hyun Joong has won three years in a row on ‘Yahoo! Asia Buzz Award”, which shows that he is truly one of the top stars not only in Korea but internationally as well.  He has great influence all over and that he why he is the first celebrity to be interviewed on ‘Yahoo! Celeb.’”

Netizens take note of Kim Hyun Joong’s manners when dealing with his own Saseng fans





A short clip of singer Kim Hyun Joong responding to his own Saseng fans is drawing netizens’ attention.


The clip was recently shared on an online community site with the title, ‘Kim Hyun Joong’s attitude towards Saseng fans‘.


The video is garnering special attention, as it was uploaded immediately after the JYJ-Saseng fan controversy began spreading like wildfire.


In the clip, there were a number of SS501 fans waiting outside their office trying to take photos of Kim Hyun Joong and Kim Kyu Jong.


Their manager tried to block the girls from getting close, but Kim Hyun Joong looked over at them, smiled, and said, “Go ahead, take pictures!”


Fans who were touched by his understanding nature remarked, “He’s awesome. How can he not get angry in a situation like that?”


Meanwhile, as the controversy surrounding idol stars’ and Saseng fans continue to spread, the fans are voicing their own opinions on the matter.


Some of which include, “The Saseng fans closely watch the stars’ every move, waiting outside their homes. It’s an invasion of their privacy,” and “The stars can’t live without these fans. It’s wrong to use physical violence and profanity against them.”

Kim Hyun Joong’s debut Japanese album achieves ‘Gold’ status





Kim Hyun Joong is proving to be quite a force to be reckoned with in Japan, as his album has reached ‘Gold’ status in just two weeks!


According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ)’s ‘Million Singles/Albums’ list, Kim Hyun Joong’s ‘Kiss Kiss/ Lucky Guy’ has achieved ‘Gold’ after being released on January 25th.


The RIAJ reviews the sales of various albums and awards different rankings depending on the amount of album sales. ‘Gold’ status is awarded to those who have sold over 100,000 copies, which Kim Hyun Joong was able to surpass easily as he sold 71,812 copies on the first day alone and 100,000 copies in the first week.


With such high figures, he easily clinched the #2 spot on the Oricon chart, and also set a new record for an overseas artist for the amount of first day sales. Talk about impressive!


In related news, Kim Hyun Joong held a concert commemorating his debut on February 5th and met with 20,000 fans. He expressed, “Thank you for giving me, a rookie, such a great outcome.”

Kim Hyun Joong attempts to eat a hot chili pepper from Okinawa





 


Singer Kim Hyun Joong, who recently released his debut album in Japan, guest-featured on a Japanese television program to show off his entertainment skills.


According to Oricon, the leading Japanese music authority, the singer was able to experience a bit of Okinawa — a city he’s always wanted to visit. Through Fuji TV‘s ‘Sakigake! Music Ranking Eight‘, Kim Hyun Joong finally received a chance to indirectly experience the culture of Okinawa.


The program gave him the opportunity to taste different foods unique to Okinawa, including one of Okinawa’s indigenous hot chili peppers. Fans grew curious to see how well he would handle the heat, as the singer enjoys spicy food in his everyday life.


A representative from the program remarked, “We launched this program in order to see side of celebrities that are hard to see on other programs.”


Whether or not Kim Hyun Joong was able to successfully stomach the chili will be revealed in the February 8th episode of ‘Sakigake! Music Ranking Eight’.

Kim Hyun Joong donates profits from his Japanese concert to an orphanage





 


Singer Kim Hyun Joong held a live concert at the Yokohama Arena on February 5th to celebrate his Japanese debut.


At the concert hall, Kim Hyun Joong faced the 20,000+ audience members and remarked, “My Japanese debut song, “Lucky Guy“, has sold over 100,000 copies in the first week after its release. Thank you guys for showing me so much support, even though I’m just a rookie here.”


It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t able to meet all 60,000 fans who applied to be here tonight, but I will make sure to have a good time with all 20,000 of you,” he said with a laugh.


Kim Hyun Joong also donated the profits from the concert to an orphanage in Japan. “I hope that it will be able to offer some help,” he said. “And if any of you are able to do so, please do what you can to help the children.”


The singer performed 13 songs in total, such as “Lucky Guy“, “Let Me Go“, “Breakdown“, and “One More Time“.


Kim Hyun Joong released his debut Japanese album on January 25th, which quickly climbed to #3 on the Oricon charts as well as setting a new record for most number of sales by an overseas artist.

Kim Hyun Joong draws eyes with his ‘street sweats’ look




Singer Kim Hyun Joong is famous for his snappy suits and roguish style, so when rehearsal photos from his upcoming concert in Japan revealed a ‘street sweats look’, they instantly made headlines.
On February 3rd, Kim Hyun Joong came in for stage rehearsals dressed in comfortable sweats, a large hoodie, and an oversized beanie. Though he looked casual, the singer was anything but as he checked sound on the stage and practiced his dance moves.
Kim Hyun Joong will be putting on his ‘Japanese Premium Live Concert’ on the 5th, where he’ll perform the Japanese versions of ”Kiss Kiss“, “Lucky Guy“, “Break Down” and more. He will also converse and interact with his fans while on stage.
Kim Hyun Joong said, “I thank all the fans who have given a lot of attention and love to my newest album. I want to gift these fans with the best stage that I can put together.”

Kim Hyun Joong is off to a good start in Japan with ‘KISS KISS/Lucky Guy’





The success of Kim Hyun Joong‘s newly released Japanese debut album was nothing short of ‘daebak‘.


His new Japanese album ‘KISS KISS/Lucky Guy‘ which dropped on the 25th immediately climbed to the #2 spot on the Oricon Daily Single Album Chart by selling 71,821 copies on the first day.


He was second to AKB48‘s popular sister group SKE48 who also released their new single ‘Kataomoi Finally‘ on the 25th, and sold a total of 285,467 copies on the first day.


Even with the number of copies he sold on the first day alone, Kim Hyun Joong would still rank as #16 on a list of Korean artists and their first week of sales in Japan. However, at the high rate that his albums are currently selling, he is predicted to sell well over 100,000 copies in the first week.


Kim Hyun Joong signed a contract with Japanese music label Universal Music in 2011. Ahead of his official single release, Kim Hyun Joong also began selling ringback tones on the 18th, which climbed to the #1 spot on the ‘Rekochoku‘ Ringback Chart.


He also will be greeting his Japanese fans by appearing on the popular TV Asahi music program ‘Music Station‘ on January 27th, and like his fellow celebrities IU and Lee Seung Gi, he is expected to make a big splash in Japan as one of Hallyu’s leading solo artists.

The event kicked off with a spectacular laser show that was followed by Kim Hyun Joong’s performances of “Let Me Go” and “Breakdown”.


As he interacted with the MC for the event, Park Seul Gi, the idol discussed his current activities as well as his upcoming plans for 2012. He earned the crowd’s applause during a segment called “Kim Hyun Joong, The Problem Solver”, by offering solutions for fans’ varying problems in his peculiar, yet witty way. He even invited one fan up to the stage and sang for her while acting out the scenario described in the lyrics, causing everyone to laugh.


Fans were treated to a special show from Kim Hyun Joong’s dogs, as he brought up his two puppies onto the stage and had them showcase the numerous tricks they learned in their obedience classes.


Of course, the event wouldn’t have been complete without a performance of his latest hit, “Kiss Kiss”, as well as other hits like “Lucky Guy”, “One More Time”, and “I’m Your Man”.


As the fan meeting reached its end, Kim Hyun Joong didn’t forget to thank the fans who had given up their time off for the Lunar New Year holiday to come spend the day with him, and took a picture with all 6,000 fans in the background.


He concluded, “I’ll become a Kim Hyun Joong who will able to pay you back with more than what I’ve received from all of you… I’ll try my hardest to show you my best side on stage as well as various projects,” before performing the traditional bow in front of all the fans.

Kim Hyun Joong ranks #1 on Recochoku’s mobile download chart







Kim Hyun Joong is already gaining much interest in Japan.


Although Kim Hyun Joong’s official debut has been slated for January 25th, the tracks off his album have been released for download as mobile message-alert sounds.


Within one day of release, Kim Hyun Joong ranked #1 on the ‘mobile message-alert download daily chart’ with “Kiss Kiss” on ‘Recochoku‘, becoming the first Korean male artist to do so. Asides from “Kiss Kiss”, “Lucky Guy”, “U”, ‘Breakdown‘ and other tracks are also included in the top twenty, evidencing the popularity of the singer.


Furthermore,Kim Hyun Joong is currently preparing for the live show on Japan’s ‘Music Station’ on January 27th. As it is an unprecedented event for a Korean solo artist making his debut to perform on such a popular show, the amount of interest from the Japanese music industry, as well as local media, has been growing.

Kim Hyun Joong to be the next Lee Seung Gi on ’1N2D’?





Singer / actor Kim Hyun Joong is being seriously considered as a potential cast member on the new season of ‘1N2D (1 Night 2 Days)‘.


Director Shin Jae Kwang of Kim Hyun Joong’s agency Key East informed OSEN on the 6th, “It is true that we have received an offer from KBS towards the end of last year, however, we have yet to make an official decision. We haven’t had the opportunity to discuss it with Kim Hyun Joong himself. Nothing is confirmed as of now.”


Meanwhile, rumors are quickly spreading in the industry that the singer will be cast in the new season of KBS 2TV‘s variety show ’1N2D’.


Kim Hyun Joong will be releasing his first Japanese single album on the 25th, and has plans to perform ‘Premium Love 2012‘ on February 5th in celebration of his new album. He will be meeting with over 20,000 of his Japanese fans.

Kim Hyun Joong releases album covers for debut Japanese single, “Kiss Kiss/Lucky Guy”









Kim Hyun Joong has released album jacket photos for his first Japanese debut single, “KISS KISS/Lucky Guy“!


Divided into three color concepts — white, green, and red — the photos bring out his powerful charisma. His debut single will include his title track, “Kiss Kiss“, and “Break Down“, “U“, and his DATV charity theme song for “Miso Project“.


He previously topped the imported album chart on the Oricon with his two Korean mini-albums already so his Japanese debut is expected to climb to success in no time.


There’s already a ‘Kim Hyun Joong’ syndrome going on in Japan thanks to his Japanese nationwide tour back in November.


Key East Entertainment stated, “Kim Hyun Joong has been actively conversing with his fans prior to his debut through showcase events and tours, which has helped a lot in forming the fanbase he has now. He’ll be undergoing an image change different to his Korean promotions so fans can look forward to new things.”


The album single will be released on January 25th, which will be followed by his ‘Premium Live 2012‘ on February 5th, an album release event that will see 20,000 fans.

Kim Hyun Joong invited to feature on a Chinese New Year Special





Actor and singer Kim Hyun Joong was in Shenyang, China on the 5th to record a Chinese New Year Special episode.


The singer took part in a broadcast rehearsal for a special program that’s scheduled to air in China on the 21st. Liaoning had specially invited the Hallyu star to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.


Kim Hyun Joong stood on stage with the most elite of Chinese celebrities, and sang his best hits of the year with 20 of his Korean dancers, as well as put on a special performance to celebrate Chinese culture.


A representative from the program remarked, “We believe the Chinese fans will be pleased with his passionate performance. He has much potential as a Hallyu star, and Chinese fans’ interest in Kim Hyun Joong is increasing by the day.”
