Bobby Kim still wants to do hip hop even when he’s 60

Buga Kingz leader Bobby Kim showed his undying affection towards hip hop.

Bobby Kim said on March 8th, “The 10 years with Buga Kingz was tough but I silently walked the road of hip hop.  It was hard and tiring but I walked this road gladly.  I will continue to hold hip hop concerts even when I am 60.”  He also added, “Buga Kingz will not disband and we will continue doing hip hop,” and showed his attachment to Buga Kingz.

On the 10th, hip hop group Buga Kingz will hold their 10th anniversary concert titled, ‘2012 Buga Kingz White Day Concert – Buga Land’ at Ehwa Women’s University’s Samsung Hall.  Buga Kingz debuted in 2001 and after holding a concert in July of 2008, they will be holding their first solo concert in 4 years.

At the concert, Yoon Mi Rae, Eun Ji Won, DoubleK, Miryo, Gilme, Typhoon and other hip hot artists will perform.  ALi, who has been receiving much recognition for her singing ability will also step on the stage.

Bobby Kim expressed his gratitude to them saying, “I give thanks to my peers who will participate in the concert even though they must be busy. We will put on an amazing show.”

Buga Kingz released their first mini album in 4 years titled, ‘A DECADE‘ with the theme of their 10th anniversary laced throughout the album.  After the release, the album and its title track “Don’t Go” has been rising on various music charts showing its great popularity.

The Buga Kingz members stated, “Hip hop is not dead.  We will show people reggae hip hop at the concert.  We will put on a concert and show that we are the kings of having a good times. We’ll put on a show fitting Buga Kingz and bring joy to our fans.“  They added, “As this is a concert where we look back at our past 10 years since our debut, we want the fans to remember our concert as a gift set showing different styles of hip hop.

Bobby Kim saw a UFO?

On a recent episode of KBS2‘s ‘Win Win‘, singer Bobby Kim caused viewers to laugh at his unique ’4-dimensional’ character.

Bobby Kim appeared as a surprise guest for Eun Ji Won, and shared that the two are avid believers of UFOs and aliens.

With a serious look on his face, Bobby Kim shared his encounter with a UFO. “Not too long ago, I saw a UFO. I’ll show you guys a photo,” and went to call for his manager.

His manager quickly came rushing back with the singer’s phone and shared the photo with the MCs. “The photo was taken right outside my house and it’s obviously not the sun nor an airplane. An orange object was slowly passing by and as soon as I saw it, I suddenly had the feeling [that it was a UFO],” he firmly said.

After seeing the photo, the MCs could not help but to laugh at his assertion and at his evidence. Close friend Eun Ji Won commented, “Even if you did see it, you should pretend as if you didn’t see it. Aliens don’t like their identity being revealed so whoever reveals it, they’ll kidnap the person and erase their memory,” causing viewers to burst into laughter.

With a stern look on his face, Bobby Kim replied back, “I don’t like ghost stories so don’t even start.”

What do you think? Do you believe that this orange blur is a UFO?

Bobby Kim prepares to release new album with Buga Kingz

It looks like Bobby Kim is finally buckling down to work on a new album with his hip-hop group, Buga Kingz.

On January 2nd, an associate of Bobby Kim’s shared with OSEN that ”We haven’t talked much about the logistics, but I think the next thing that he will work on is the long-awaited album with the Buga Kingz“.

The Buga Kingz had already released their first digital single, “Number One“, in November and planned on releasing their next album around that time. However, since Bobby Kim joined the popular singing program ‘I Am A Singer‘, the album’s release date got pushed back.

Bobby Kim had been a fan favorite on the show, thanks to his smooth vocals and clever incorporation of raps in his remakes of classical Korean hits. Though he delivered a great cover of ‘Double‘ by Kim Gun Mo on January 1st, he was eliminated from the competition.

Bobby Kim commented, “‘I Am A Singer’ is a program that saved me. It helped me sing and be loved for my talent — after my accident, it made me feel alive again. I am truly grateful and happy“.

Bobby Kim to head the judges’ panel of upcoming ‘Global Super Idol’ audition show

Cable channel ETN revealed today that Bobby Kim will head the judges’ panel of their upcoming survival show, ‘Global Super Idol.’

Bobby Kim has himself seen a significant rise in popularity since joining ‘I Am A Singer‘ in August and impressing audiences with his vocals. Now, he will be the main judge in finding the next ‘ten-million dollar idol’.

The show is being co-produced by ETN and GSI Holdings.  A spokesperson for the latter commented, “Bobby Kim is the representative of Korean soulful hip-hop and is acknowledged as a musician with global appeal. We’re anticipating his role as a judge because we believe he will help the contestants develop and upgrade their musical abilities. Also, since he was raised internationally he will be able to help our foreign contestants and potential finalists better in the long run.”

On being chosen Bobby Kim said, “It’s quite a different position for me to become a judge after participating on ‘I Am A Singer.’ I will critique not only the contestants’ musical talents, but also their hidden abilities that will help them gain success as idols. Even though I’ll be on the judges’ panel, I’m feeling feeling nervous nonetheless since ‘Global Super Idol’ is an audition.”

The first round of Thailand’s auditions were held on October 13th with an impressive turnout. In Korea, contestants can enter online through the show’s homepage until December 10th. Regional auditions will begin December 3rd and the show will officially air January 5th, 2012.
