Song Hye Gyo’s photo essay, Hye Gyo’s Time is enjoying a slow but growing popularity.
In the week since its release, the photo essay has been appearing in the best-selling list for the essay portions of both online and offline book chart. The strong response comes despite Song Hye Gyo not holding any public promotions such as autograph events and television appearances like many other celebrities do.
For Song Hye Gyo who has largely focused on overseas activities rather than domestic ones, the essay is Song Hye Gyo’s form of reaching a new level of communication with fans in Korea who have been waiting the past four years.
The essay contains her candid thoughts on dating and marriage, her dilemmas as an actress and her role as an opinion leader in society among other topics.
In the essay she writes, “My personality is quite unsociable. I’m quite gruff and have a personality more like a son than a daughter. Perhaps because of this, when I see someone I like, I’m not able to express myself well.”
She also adds, “The fact I’m able to use the money I spent towards the causes and things I want based on my selection makes the present quite a pleasant one for me.”
She also touched on having an aura of mystery around her saying, “Shouldn’t an actor have a certain level of mystery behind [him/her]? That way, when viewers watch [him or her] they can do so while imagining that person’s character. If one’s privacy is too exposed I think it becomes difficult for viewers to be engrossed in his or her character as the character will be seen as that person.”
The actress also revealed she had a fondness for drinks time to time sharing that when she drank soju she usually divided the shot into three sips, but when a feel-good story emerges she likes to take a one-shot.
But with her revelation on her thoughts on marriage and love, on her hopes for the society and as a woman in Korea, she reveals her thoughts aren’t that much different from other women in their 20s and 30s.
