‘The Thieves’ becomes the second highest grossing film in Korean cinema history

The movie ‘The Thieves‘ has become the 2nd highest grossing film in Korean cinema history.

According to the distributor of ‘The Thieves’, as of August 30th 5:00pm, the movie has been seen by over 12,310,000 people. This surpasses the 12,302,831 that watched ‘The King and the Clown‘ and is starting to creep up to ‘The Host’, which is the highest grossing Korean film with 13,019,740 movie viewers.

‘The Thieves’ reached the 12.31 million mark in just 37 days since release, which is a day quicker than ‘The Host’, and many are curious to see whether it will be able to break the record to become the highest grossing film in the nation.

The movie ‘The Thieves’ is about a team of 10 people from Korea and China that are trying to steal a valuable diamond called ‘The Tear of the Sun’ from a casino in Macau. The movie boasts an A-list cast with Kim Yoon Suk, Kim Hye Soo, Lee Jung Jae, Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Hye Sook, Oh Dal Soo, Kim Soo Hyun and more.

Kim Soo Hyun follows through on his deal to piggy-back a ‘The Thieves’ fan

Actor Kim Soo Hyun has followed through on his promise made with ‘The Thieves‘ fans!

Just last month, Kim Soo Hyun struck a deal with ‘The Thieves’ fans saying that he would give a piggy-back ride to the 10 millionth viewer of the movie.

Because the movie did indeed draw in over 10 million viewers, a special event was held on the 18th to follow through with the promises Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hae Sook made. Actress Kim Hae Sook had promised, “I will give the 10 millionth a kiss.”

The special event was held in Gangnam and had audience members that ranged from fans who had watched ‘The Thieves’ over 5 times to those who came all the way from the country side to attend the event.

At the event Kim Soo Hyun expressed his thanks stating, “I made the promise hoping that 10 million audience members would watch the film, but i’m so glad it became a reality! I want to thank the viewers who helped make it a movie that exceeds 10 million viewers.“ Actress Kim Hae Sook who made time out of her busy schedule to attend the event expressed, “I’m so glad I could take on a great role and be a part of a 10 million viewer film, and I want to thank the 10 million viewers. Thank you for attending [the event] even in this harsh weather.”

As for the lucky fan who was chosen to receive a piggy-back ride from Kim Soo Hyun, a young middle school girl from the country was chosen. The fan who had come to the event with her parents burst into tears of happiness when her seat was called, and Kim Soo Hyun followed through on his promise and gave her a piggy-back ride while trying to calm her tears down with his witty comments. The actor walked around the theatre with the lucky fan on his back receiving much applause from the rest of the audience.

Meanwhile, ‘The Thieves’ is an action film about 10 professional Korean and Chinese thieves that come together to steal a rare diamond called the ‘Tears of Heaven’, hidden in a casino in Macao.

Kim Soo Hyun’s deal with ‘The Thieves’ viewers about to become reality

Last month, actor Kim Soo Hyun made a public deal with his fans promising that should his movie, ‘The Thieves‘, hit 10 million viewers, he would give the ucky 10 millionth viewer a piggy back ride.

The deal is about to become a reality, as it’s almost certain that the movie will see the great milestone on August 15th, a national holiday celebrating National Liberation or Independence Day. As of the 14th, the movie was at 9.75 million viewers.

Not only that, but actress Kim Hae Sook had also previously joined in on the deal by promising a kiss to the 10 millionth viewer, so the stakes are high for the special fan.

However, it has come to their attention that it will be nearly impossible to find the exact 10 millionth viewer, so instead they’ll be opening up an event where fans can send in proof shots of their tickets on the movie’s official Facebook page.

Thirty viewers around the 10 million mark will be chosen to be invited to a special event on August 18th where two viewers total will be chosen to receive either the kiss or piggy back ride.

‘The Thieves’ reveal previously unreleased still cuts of Kim Soo Hyun

A few previously unreleased still-cuts from the set of movie ‘The Thieves‘ garnered much attention as they captured Kim Soo Hyun‘s toned body.

In the revealed still-cuts, Kim Soo Hyun, who plays the role of the youngest thief out of the bunch, displays the confident nature of his character while also showcasing his sculpted body.

The actor was reportedly always energetic and full of vigor on set, and demonstrated his passion and earnest affection towards his film. Even while the cameras were off, the optimistic Kim Soo Hyun helped maintain a lively atmosphere on set.

In the film, the actor displays his youthful passion as he takes on the role of Zampano, who falls for an expert rope-climbing thief, Yenicall (played by Jun Ji Hyun).

In related news, ‘The Thieves’ recorded 7.2 million viewers in just 13 days after hitting the big screens.

‘The Thieves’ breaks record, bringing in over 5 million viewers in 10 days

Director Choi Dong Hun‘s successful new movie ‘The Thieves‘ has reached 5,000,000 viewers in just 10 days after its release. The movie currently stands at 5,432,100 cumulative viewers.

Released on July 25th, the movie reached 5,571,750 viewers in just 10 days, and beating ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘s record, released in Korea a week earlier, by 350,000 viewers. ‘The Thieves’ has broken a national record of gaining over 5,400,000 viewers in a short period of time.

The movie has also broken the records of extremely successful movies in past years like ‘The Host‘ (5,140,000 viewers in 10 days) and ‘Transformers 3‘ (5,200,000 viewers in 11 days), as well as ‘D-War‘ (5,300,000 viewers in 12 days) and ‘Haeundae‘ (5,100,000 in 13 days).

‘The Thieves’ takes place in a Macau casino, where 10 skilled thieves from Korea and China work together to steal the famous diamond, the ‘Teardrop of the Sun’. The movie features a thrilling plot and exciting action scenes, as well as great actors who fill the roles of each unique character extremely well.

Kim Soo Hyun returns to Korea after cheering on Park Tae Hwan in London

Actor Kim Soo Hyun left for London on July 27th to cheer on the Olympic team, and after staying there for 5 days, the actor returned to Korea on July 31st.

He was at the London Aquatics Centre intently watching the 400m freestyle race and cheered on Park Tae Hwan. On this day, Park Tae Hwan came in second place to claim the silver medal and responded to the cheers of Kim Soo Hyun and the Korean cheering section.

Actor Kim Soo Hyun‘s lighter has been sold for over 1 million Won ($870 USD).

The lighter is a prop belonging to ‘Jampano‘, the actor’s character in the film, ‘The Thieves‘.

Starting from the 16th to the 22nd, 10 props used in ‘The Thieves’ were auctioned off on an internet open market site. The ST DuPont Maxijet midnight blue lighter, fitting for the bold character of Jampano, especially drew in the attention of fans.

Kim Soo Hyun strikes a silly deal with ‘The Thieves’ audience

Actor Kim Soo Hyun has made a deal with the public about his latest movie ‘The Thieves‘.

‘The Thieves’ held its opening, red carpet event on the 24th at the Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) located in the Samseong-dong area. During the premiere, Kim Soo Hyun made an appearance and was briefly interviewed.

At one point, host Kim Bum Ryong prodded Kim Soo Hyun into making a promise with the public to ensure the movie’s success. Bewildered, Kim Soo Hyun started, “[If the box office number] exceeds 10 million people…”

As he hesitated, fellow co-star Kim Yoon Suk piped up playfully, “He will carry Jeon Ji Hyun on his back through the entire country.”

At this, Kim Soo Hyun humorously added, “If the movie pulls in 10 million people, I will watch the movie with the ten millionth person on my back.”

Regarding his performance playing the character ‘Jampano’, he commented, “[Though calling the characters 'The Thieves' makes them seem like extremely realistic and selfish people], Jampano at least was the most romantic.”

Kim Soo Hyun confirmed for movie ‘Secret to Greatness’

Actor Kim Soo Hyun will be returning to the big screen as a flower boy spy.

On April 28th, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency KeyEast revealed that Kim Soo Hyun will be acting in the upcoming movie ‘Secret to Greatness‘.  The movie is based off a Hun cartoon about a North Korean flower boy spy who lives in the ghettos of Seoul. The story follows his journey after being abandoned by the North.

It’s been reported that Jun Jae Hong, who also directed last year’s movie ‘Poongsan‘, will hold the megaphone once again for this movie.

Kim Soo Hyun will be playing the role of Won Ryu Hwan, the leader of the three flower boy spies. He behaves like a countryside fool, but has the ability to read people. After playing a ‘flower boy’ King in ‘The Moon that Embraces the Sun‘, Kim Soo Hyun will now be playing a flower boy spy for his next project.

With his upcoming movie ‘The Thieves‘, which is scheduled to premiere in July, fans will be able to meet Kim Soo Hyun soon through the big screen.

‘Secret to Greatness’ is scheduled to start filming in July after the completion of the pre-production development and casting.
