Whatever happened to YG Entertainment’s new boy group?

Back in 2011, YG Entertainment made a big announcement, saying, “Next year, we will be introducing a boy group and a girl group.” Ever since, the company has been slowly revealing the progress of its girl groups ‘YG Girls’ Generation’ and SuPearls. However, news pertaining to YG’s boy group has still not been mentioned.

After the rehearsal video of ‘Future 2NE1′ was released on July 2nd, many have become curious about the supposed boy group, whose plans remain in the shadows. Some have commented, “They’re only releasing [news concerning] the girl groups one after the other; what happened to the boy group?,” “Last year, it seemed like there was a lot of commotion regarding whether or not Kang Seung Yoon (Superstar K2 contestant) would [become part of YG and its boy band], but now there’s none of that anymore,” and, “They released the practice video of a trainee group that is coming out in 4 years, but what happened to the boy group that’s supposed to debut this year?

While sitting down for an interview with Newsen, representatives of YG Entertainment replied to this question, saying, “It is true that we are in the process of preparing our [new] boy group.” They continued to clarify, “However, we have not decided on anything, neither the group’s composition, nor their debut date, etc.” Thus, it seems that the public will not find out much about YG’s boy group progress for a while, as the company itself is still quite uncertain about it.

YG Entertainment plans on debuting SuPearls as soon as possible

YG Entertainment released their plans for the 5 trainees they recently picked up from the popular audition show, SBSK-pop Star‘: Lee Ha Yi, Michelle Lee, Lee Seung Hoon, Lee Junmi, and Lee Seung Joo.

On May 23rd, YG Entertainment CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, carefully revealed his upcoming plans for their debut.

Yang Hyun Suk commented, “During ‘K-Pop Star’ the group SuPearls moved the stage and the audience so we are planning on creating a new ‘SuPearls’“. SuPearls, originally consisting of Lee Jungmi, Lee Michelle, Lee Seung Joo, and the winner Park Jimin, is the sub-group that was created in ‘K-Pop Star’ as one of the challenges that stunned the judges and the audience with their perfect harmonization and confidence.

But in the new SuPearls, YG is replacing Park Jimin with Lee Ha Yi, who finished in second on the show. Yang Hyun Suk also revealed his hopes for recreating a group similar to Big Mama. He also said, “The new SuPearls members already proved their skills through K-Pop Star and there are many fans who are anticipating for their return. We are going to start on their debut stage immediately and release them as soon as possible.”

As for hip-hop baby lion Lee Seung Hoon, they plan on holding off his debut for a bit. Yang Hyun Suk stated that the next time he is to appear in front of his fans, Lee Seung Hoon will have become an official idol singer.

But for now, although he has a lot of talent, he will be trained as a regular trainee and re-learn the basics, receiving proper professional training before officially debuting.
