How Will ‘Infinity Challenge’ Make Up for Lost Time?

MBC’s Infinity Challenge, which had left its post empty for 24 weeks, will be starting up again on July 21.

The show will continue with the ‘Haha vs. Hong Chul Battle’ that had been interrupted by the labor strike in January.

Because the show has been discontinued for so long, the episode will need to be reedited before it airs. One point of interest viewers have been concentrating on is whether the reedit of the show will include an official apology toward the viewers for missing so many episodes.

It won’t happen if the episode is only made up of the reedited content, but it may come to pass if the members film a separate opening for the new start.

It has become known that the members will get together to shoot an opening scene on July 19, making it highly probable that an apology will be made.

Infinity Challenge has previously missed a few episodes due to labor strikes, but they’ve lasted, at the longest, a month.

The six month strike was thus unexpected and unprecedented. Broadcasts are like a promise the producers make with the viewers; even if the producers had clear reasons they had to go on strike, they have to take responsibility for whatever consequences arise from being unable to keep that promise.

In May, KBS2’s 1 Night, 2 Days came back after its strike with a deep bow from the six members. The episode had aired after going on strike for six weeks.

In the opening, Kim Seung Woo said, “We weren’t able to participate [in the show]. We’ll make you a promise. We’ll make sure we give you better laughs and more touching stories.” The members then bowed down one by one, saying that they would “work harder in the future.”

On the other hand Infinity Challenge is known for making even its apologies in its own unique way.

When a controversy arose in November 2009 regarding Jung Jun Ha’s attitude toward a guest chef, the members sang out a song of apology in the next episode. The apologetic parody of the Beatles’ Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da was enough to pacify viewers with the show’s characteristic brand of wit.

How will Infinity Challenge come back to its viewers after its absence of six months? Will viewers be able to see an Infinity Challenge-style apology?
