Get to know the ‘Top 3′ contestants of ‘Superstar K3′

Now that the contestants have been whittled down to the ‘Top 3′, Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K3‘ is as tension-filled as ever! For the first time in the show’s history, all three of the top contestants are groups, with the last solo, Christina, eliminated last week.

Get to know ULALA SessionBusker Busker, and Two Months before they head into the final match that could catapult them into superstardom in the coming weeks!

– ULALA Session –

Comprised of five members, this male group is best known for their control.  Over the course of five live stages, they’ve proven that they can blend in and out of genres from dance to ballads with a unique charm that keeps people on their toes. They’ve covered everything from Rain‘s “Bad Guy” to “Western Sky“.

The ability to pull this off so seamlessly stems from the fact that each of their members has exceptional vocal talents. The boys proved they can each sing by covering the pop song “Open Arms“.  Not only that, but the group received praise for their ability to sing with believable emotions.

Judge Yoon Jong Shin stated, “Singing is not about the beat or the technique, but the feelings, emotions, and your level of honesty. There’s something about you in all of these things – you all sing with truth.”

This unique trio is comprised of Jang Bum Joon (vocal, guitar), Bradley (drums), and Kim Hyung Tae (bass). Unfortunately, the group has gone through quite the bumpy road, as judges have always criticized the vocalist’s unstable live skills.

They were, however, able to make a return back into the game by proving that they could make up for their weaknesses through their uniqueness and creativity. This was enough to win the audience over, as their text votes from the audience made up for their low score from the judges, catapulting them into the ‘Top 3′.

Their shining moment happened during the ‘Top 4′ finals, where they showed the extent of their creativity with a one-of-a kind arrangement of ‘Makgeollina‘.  The lead vocal’s shortcomings were covered by the way he was able to harmonize with the drums and the bass, working in tune with the audience.  Judges and viewers alike realized that Busker Busker was not a band you could judge on vocal talent alone, as it is the combination of their talents that truly makes them sparkle.

Fortunately, this worked for the judges, as Yoon Jong Shin commented, “I always thought that you guys had that good feel, but weren’t able to live up to it because you were a bit shaky and not on beat. Now that I see you today, however, I realize that you are not a lacking team, but a creative one that extends out from the standards set by others.”

– Two Months –

Two Months is a co-ed duo comprised of Kim Yerim and Do Daeyoon. The duo has made their mark on the show through Do Daeyoon’s expansive growth, but judges often thought that he lacked the same presence as Kim Yerim. For a while now, Kim Yerim has been at the forefront of the group thanks to her unique voice and beauty, and the fact that Do Daeyoon only performed an instrument and did not sang further spread that gap.

With each new performance, Do Daeyoon managed to step up his game and not only bring out the true colors of what Two Months is all about, but also his own colors.  He did this by putting down his guitar with his new found confidence and finally grabbing hold of a mic. Judges were ecstatic when he threw out his guitar in the middle of singing “Brown City” and harmonized his own smooth, low-toned voice with Kim Yerim’s unique one. It was only then that judges felt that Two Months was “finally complete”.

Judge Lee Seung Chul praised, “Do Daeyoon has finally gained some confidence, and I’m glad that he was able to let us hear his voice.” Yoon Jong Shin added,“I didn’t think that you would show us all of the extent of your vocal talent, but what I could hear was charming.”

Who will you be rooting for?
