Poll reveals public opinion regarding Yoo Seung Jun’s controversial comeback

A poll was conducted on a major Korean portal site, asking netizens how they felt about 90′s idol star Yoo Seung Jun coming back to Korea to perform.

The poll began on November 17th and as of November 22nd, over 35% of the 54,262 netizens that voted were in support of his comeback. Although 65% were against him returning to Korea, this response is still significantly different from how the Koreans responded ten years back.

Yoo Seung Jun was one of the hottest idol stars in the 90′s but was unfortunately banned from Korea in 2002 after he failed to fulfill his mandatory military service. He was shunned and criticized back then and local television programs discontinued airing his performances altogether. Compared to then, netizens have now become a lot more understanding and it looks like there may be a gleam of hope for the singer.

This poll is especially noteworthy as SBSPlus ‘Comeback Show Top 10‘ PD Han announced that he would work to bring the singer back if over 33.3% of the nation were in support of his comeback. Of course, he had made this announcement without consulting Yoo Seung Jun himself or his management company, but the fact that the poll garnered these kinds of results without any of the singer’s own efforts is highly significant.

Yoo Seung Jun is currently singing and acting in China, but he has expressed multiple times viaWeibo (a Chinese social networking site) his undying love for Korea. Netizens everywhere are curious to know if Korea’s newfound interest in his comeback will be enough to actually make it happen.
In related news, Yoo Seung Jun is currently filming a new Chinese drama.

In his attached photo, Yoo Seung Jun showed off his newly-shaved head for his Chinese drama, ‘Jung Choong Ahk Bi’. Although he’s filmed movies in the past, ‘Jung Choong Ahk Bi’ is his first drama production.

The star has been gaining a lot of public attention lately, due to his many messages expressing his desire to return to Korea. Television show ‘Comeback Show Top 10′ stated that they would petition the government to allow the singer to come back to Korea if they were able to receive many votes. Yoo Seung Jun also put ‘Korea’ as his nationality on Weibo, despite having changed his citizenship.

Yoo Seung Jun’s agency states, “No plans to make a Korean comeback”

Yoo Seung Jun‘s agency responded to the news that a particular broadcasting company would try to bring the singer back after conducting a poll with the nation. Their official statement? “We have no plans to make a comeback, regardless of the results.

Yoo Seung Jun’s Chinese agency JC Group International informed that they have never received calls nor negotiated with the ‘SBS Plus‘ or ‘Comeback Show Top 10‘ staff, and that they have yet to plan or even consider Yoo Seung Jun’s Korean comeback.

Even Yoo Seung Jun himself did not know, and it set him back a little bit. But he is so thankful and joyous, as he knows this is due to the many fans that still remember him and continue to support him after all this time.

JC Group International’s head Jackie Chan also commented on the recent news. “I think the best way for him to repay his loyal fans for their continued love and support is to first accomplish all the goals he’s set for himself thus far and plan for a later date when he can stand confidently before his Korean fans.

He continued, “It’s hard to see him so broken over not being able to return to his home country… but I know that he will be able to make a strong international comeback. He will rise to his feet again, and he is forever grateful for the fans who remember him and are waiting for him to return. Please continue to show your encouragement so that he can make it big again one day soon.”

The ‘Comeback Show Top 10′ staff sparked controversy after announcing that they would conduct a poll with the Korean citizens regarding Yoo Seung Jun’s comeback in Korea. If more than 33.3% of them actively supported Yoo Seung Jun’s comeback, they would look into procedures necessary to bring him back.

Yoo Seung Jun was once at the peak of fame in Korea, however, was banned from the country in 2002 after controversy erupted over his mandatory Korean military service.
