Gong Yoo dubbed Korea’s new ‘Chemy King’ of K-dramas

Before you ask, let us explain: ‘Chemy King’, which stands for ‘Chemistry King’, is a trendy new phrase that has been circulating the web among Koreans. As you can guess, it refers to an actor who is believably compatible with his/her co-star onscreen.

Netizens took to the polls and recently voted Gong Yoo to be the ‘Chemy King’ of Korean dramas at the moment. In addition to his current star role in ‘Big‘ alongside miss A‘s Suzy, this actor has convincingly played a multitude of male lead characters in dramas, from Park Tae In, the lover of Na Bori (Kong Hyo Jin) who was six years his senior, in ‘Hello My Teacher‘, to Seo Gun, who falls in love with Seo Haneul (Sung Yuri) in MBC’s ‘One Fine Day‘.

The connections have even spilled over to real life in a series of incidences. After the filming of the hugely successful drama ‘Coffee Prince‘ back in 2007, he was widely suspected to be in a real-life relationship with co-star Yoon Eun Hye. Later on, he was also swept up in a love scandal with ‘Finding Mr Destiny‘ co-star Im Soo Jung.

Netizens have noted, “He could’ve gone out with all of the actress he’s ever acted with,” and, “It all boils down to how well you can get along with your co-star.
