PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ is most watched Korean music video on YouTube

PSY has once again made history by being the Korean singer to have a music video with the most number of views on YouTube, the biggest video sharing website in the world.

As at 4PM (KST) of September 1st, PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ music video has been viewed 84 million times (84,118,182), and setting a new record in the process. It surpassed the previous record held by Girls’ Generation’s ‘GEE’ music video which had 83 million views (83,809,895).

Besides the view count, the record was particularly meaningful in another perspective. As with most music videos, the number of view counts for them would experience a gradual decline with each passing day. But it is the exception for ‘Gangnam Style’ which just keeps increasing its view count with each passing day. This was especially so as it took just 3 days for ‘Gangnam Style’ to jump from 70 to 80 million view counts, leaving one to imagine how high the view count might still go.

In addition, PSY has also been doing it in the American iTunes chart as well. Having placed 44th in the iTunes chart on August 28th, the song ‘Gangnam Style’ jumped 10 spots to finish at 34th position for the September 1st charts, and continues to outdo itself.

Meanwhile, PSY who is enjoying an upward surge in popularity will be ending promotions in Korea soon before flying off to America again in early September.
