It’s just been reported that Han Sung Joo, a Miss Korea and news anchor, has filed a civil suit against media outlets.
In case you’ve forgotten, a man claiming to be Han Sung Joo’s ex-boyfriend, Christopher Hsu, released a sex tape and filed a lawsuit against the former Miss Korea, stating that he was locked up and assaulted by Han Sung Joo and her family. Han Sung Joo retaliated, stating that it was she who had been abused, not the other way around.
In response to various articles released by the media on the situation, Han Sung Joo and her legal team have decided to sue for ‘defamation of character’.
On January 19th, Han Sung Joo’s team released their official statement to the public, saying, “We have filed a lawsuit for the compensation of damages against two media outlets for 300 million Won (~ $264,000 USD) each… We plan to proceed with a criminal suit for defamation of character.”
In a December 22nd press release, Han Sung Joo’s legal team lambasted the media for dodgy journalism. “Reporting without confirming the identity of the source, and reporting one-sidedly without giving the other side a chance to refute, could potentially cause the public to interpret false information as ‘fact’. It’s as if the media outlets are cooperating with the offender in the criminal act. In order to prevent further damage to Han Sung Joo and her associates, we once again request that you please report only with facts, and lend us your cooperation so that Christopher Hsu can be arrested.”
